Garmin V and Macintosh

Hi!

Anyone knows if you can connect Garmin V to a Mac? Does it support USB? I am thinking about a Streetpilot also. But I think it´s too big and ugly.

Is the Garmin V worth the value?

Thanks!

This is easy you must buy USB adapter to connect parell plug with USB. If you wan to use PC software download Virtual PC soft (only run on strong Mac like G4 or G5)

Thanks Shelton!

I,ve got a Powerbook G4, 1,25 Ghz with OSX. It should be enough. I have heard though that it´s a very slow solution to work with VPC. Do you know anything about that.

VirtualPC version 6 runs Win2000 very good on my G4 466Mhz (768MB of RAM), also the same does my laptop iBook G3 700Mhz (384MB of RAM). GPS data transfer and manipulating software doesn't requre that much CPU power.

But if you're the same sick of Windows as i am, then check out native MacOS utilites:

No need to corrupt your Mac with Virtual PC - get GPS Mac progs, if that is what you're after.
GPSy or GPSPro (these were for Sys 9 but they have caught up with 10 by now)

I think GPSPro was a bit better but both are a long way behind Ozi Explorer (PC only).

And good news - MacGPS Pro 5 is out now since today!

MacGPS Pro 5.0 adds more import, calibration features
James Associates has released MacGPS Pro 5.0, the latest release of its works software that works with Garmin and Magellan GPS receivers for transferring Waypoints, Routes, Tracklogs, and GPS satellite Almanacs. It works many brands of GPS receivers for a real-time display of GPS information on a moving map on the Macintosh screen. Version 5 adds automatic calibration for nautical charts (NOS/GEO/BSB); import of driving directions from the Web, GPX files, and .MAP/.JPR georeference files for automatic calibration. It is $40 ($10 more for CD-ROM)
