Hi Help needed
I plugged my unit in to check for updates today and all seemed to go well , but when I turned on later I got a message on unit screen saying "system software missing " . this is a problem as the device will now not boot and I,m heading to Europe in 3 weeks.
Anyone any ideas ?

Garmin has a major office (one of 3 of their largest offices worldwide) in the UK, you might want to consider sending the unit there to have the missing software installed. Here are the contact details:

Garmin (Europe) Ltd
Liberty House
Hounsdown Business Park
Southampton
Hampshire
SO40 9LR
United Kingdom

Telephone 0808 238 0000 (freephone from UK landline)
Telephone 0870 850 1242 (Outside UK)
Fax +44 (0)23 8052 4004

Alternatively, if you know someone else who has the same model (a 660) and is familiar with the software, it is possible that they could copy the missing files from their unit to yours. This can be done relatively easily using a home computer, but it requires more than just an average level of knowledge of the Garmin file structure (what does what).

If I were you, I'd send it to Garmin in Hampshire.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
