Garmin maps

I have the Zumo 550 with the maps for N America but the screen has failed I have purchased a new 660 in Europe while traveling and need to transfer my maps for N America to the new unit. Garmin tells me I need to purchase the maps again. I have purchased Lifetime updates for the maps but they say they are not transferable. Great and it is their unit that failed. Any one know were I can the maps or how to transfer them to my new unit I have the cd with me.
Thanks for any help I hate to line the pockets of such a big company.:nono:

Hi Outlaw,
I can't help you with the transfer of the Map, but your Zumo 550 screen is replaceable, here is the link to an article on the hubb; http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ment-how-53166,
mine failed in Thailand and I found a new screen on E-bay, it was about 20+GBP, an easy fix, so don't throw away your 550!

Outlaw-

If your gps has failed under its warranty period- Garmin will replace it and the maps too-

If it has failed outside this, for a small fee, they will replace your unit .In the UK, the replacement service is just at under £100-

Screens can be replaced too.
And as for "I hate to line the pockets of such a big company" - it is thanks to that big company that we can all enjoy such fabulous toys- yes , they cost but there isn't much that doesn't these days!
Factor in the ease of navigation compared to the 'old' days when all we had were paper maps that turned to papier-mache in the rain and I'm glad that this big company exists!

Speak to Garmin directly, you'll find them very helpful :thumbup1:
