Garmin 60csx vs Colorado300

Hello.

I have never used a GPS in a motorbike/car but now I'm considering to buy one.
In some months I will be riding from Europe to south India and after some research, I think these two models would do fine.

Garmin 60CSX (320€)

I have zero experience with GPS (outside sailing). Are these a good option? Should I consider other models? A friend would lend me his 276c, but I prefer to have my own for several reasons, but I don't want to buy the 276c as I think the smaller ones could be better for me (although I appreciate the larger screen).
I'm not sure if these portatile GPS's have the option to be connected to the bikes battery. Are they?

And, are good maps of Iran, Pakistan and India available? Where? (I mean for the GPS)

Haven't used a Colorado - have they debugged them?

Use a 60Cx, previously a legend C, the 60 is a lot better ( and tried and tested, dead reliable too). Use a Motorola V3i cigarette lighter adaptor, and you need batteries as backup only.

Maps for India (Garmin compatible) - you could try street_atlas(at) hotmail. c o m These are not very detailed or even terribly accurate, but as for now, probably the best you can get for India

I think I was too brief!

The Motorola V3i series phone has a mini USB port that is the same as the one used on the legend/vista/60 series. So, a cigarette lighter adapter that charges the V3i will also supply continuous onboard power to the GPS.

Some small precautions:
  • Set the GPS to stay on if external power is removed.
  • Sometimes the ciggy lighter adapter vibrates itself out of the socket, resulting in a loss of external power - use duct tape/mount the lighter socket somewhere it cannot be tinkered with and fix the adaptor with a tie wrap to the socket to stabilize it once and for all.
  • Use a tie wrap to also secure the cable to the body of the adaptor, as tension at the point where it enters the adaptor may damage it

We don't get these adaptors easily here in India and the dealer price is 40$:eek3: The V3i charger cost a little over 3$
