Couldnt get your link to work but yes Formula 1 is good when you can't get a stealth camping place.

Plus 1 for F1 motels, great to use if you need an early start, used a number of them a few winters ago and the reception staff even allowed me to put the 'loaded' bike in front of the reception windows for security at all the ones I used.

Stayed in lots of them over the years. Mostly :thumbup1: They're the hotel chain that bridged the price gap between camping and "proper" hotels for me and these days I'll decide to camp out of choice instead of "it's all I can afford".

One or two have been a bit iffy - I was woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of gunfire in one and arrived at another to see the police taking someone away in handcuffs. My wife prefers to go a bit "upmarket" and will insist on at least Etap!

Re Bertrand's POI file, there are a number of database files like that around for just about anything you can think of in France - the various hotel chains, supermarkets, McD's, campsites, DIY shops etc. Really useful info.

Caminando- I've checked the file- it downloads the file directly to your pc.
If using windows, you should have a folder called downloads and the file will be there.

My only issue with Formula One is the fact that if I'm sitting at the little desk in the corner and stand up I bump my balding scalp on a sharp corner of the television bracket. Then I bleed profusely, my few remaining hairs get matted with clotted blood, and I feel old and decrepit....which is not to be desired.

I've done this in Formula One rooms all over the place. Same corner desk, same tv bracket, same sharp metal corner, same foul language in response. What's with that? Am I the only one?

they are nearly all the same mark, i saw the reason once when i was staying in an etap and they were building an F1 next door- all the rooms are prefab and come 3 to a truck, a big metal frame like a warehouse is put up, with built in water and electric ring mains, the rooms slot in like a stack of lego bricks. then the corridor flooring and niceties are put in, and the outside of the building gets clad. took about 3 days.
the only ones ive been in that were different were ones that were converted from existing buildings

Yes theyre all the same - pretty compact! As for the gunfire:eek3:, I cant top that but once, in the next room, a couple had a vicious argument and punchup, eventually rolling into the corridor to finish off. But their noise masked the noise of my gas stove purring away, as I made a hot meal.

Incidentally, the staff (if you see them) are great at enabling you to get a room where the bike :scooter:is outside the window. You can just chuck your gear in and out the window + the better security.

(Thanks Bertrand too!:thumbup1:)

This would be very useful. What's the best way to convert CSV files into GPX on a mac for loading into Roadtrip?

stickyweb 29 Sep 2010 00:33

In answer to my own questions Garmin POI loader does the trick.

But in case anyone else is confused like I was it will look for a directory not a particular file - hence files will always be grey out. POI loader will install all files in that directory.

To search for them in a Garmin Nuvi once uploaded look in the 'Extras' folder.

Thanks for the F1 hotels Bertrand!
