Mapsource critical error...!

Hi all..

Ok - I'm a dumb@ss..!

I downloaded the Morocco maps from here, and installed the topo map which ran ok, but when I installed the road map it did something which messed up Mapsource's configuration. Like a tw@t I didn't read the last paragraph which says about messing about with the registry can be fatally harmful (he wasn't wrong either!), but was lulled into a false sense of complacency by the success of the topo map install.

The long and short of it is that I've f*cked up my registry entry and can't load Mapsource at all now. Has anyone else had this experience, and if so how did you resolve the problem ..??

I'm reasonably happy with digging around in the registry so long as I know what to do so if anyone could give me a little guidance I'd be a very happy bunny!

Cheers

Greg

Try deleting the registry entries you created for those maps. If they're wrong, you'll get that error.

Ok - happier bunny now!

I solved the problem - albeit unwittingly - by re-loading the self installing executable file... that seemed to re-set the registry and allowed me to start Mapsource without any more trouble.

But - my original objective was to be able to access the road map without the contour lines which I think Tim C may have posted about before. Having already had one scare too many with this, I'm hoping somebody might steer me in the right direction to be able to achieve this without having another cardiac episode!

Any help appreciated!

Cheers - Greg

Greg, you should have a file supplied with the topo maps that is called something.reg (install.reg?).

The content will be something like:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Famil ies\Morocco Topo Maps]
"ID"=hex:c6,00
"IDX"="D:\\Garmin\\MOROCCO\\MorocTopo.mdx"
"MDR"="D:\\Garmin\\MOROCCO\\MorocTopo_mdr.img"

You need to edit the drive/path names to where you installed the maps.
Run the .reg file.
Do this BEFORE restarting Mapsource.

If it screws up, just delete this registry entry and restart MS.
