Creating maps from waypoints etc
 

Hola !

I'm looking for some software to create some fairly detailed maps from GPS data, ie: superimposing waypoints & tracks etc.

Any recomendations ?

You can download two free versions - one will do one thing, the other another. Westprint (OZ map maker) uses it (and produce digital maps compatable with it), Hemma (anotehr OZ map maker) also produce digital maps compatable with it (and include a lite version of it on the6 sheet collection).

I use a registered version.

Another question...does anyone know of some software that can convert the garmin IMG maps into a different format (ie: BMP, JPG, etc)

I've been fiddling with various 'vector to raster' converters but nothing seems to work.

The most experienced person I have met for mapping by GPS is David Unkovitch who is an Ozzie based in Thailand and he has mapped most of Laos - which is quite an achievement!! He can be contacted on gt-rider.com,

He might help, but hes a busy guy and probably in Laos..
