Beginners help with GPS&laptop

Hi, I've never realy used the GPS before, but you can't stop the progress... I want to take my little laptop for the trip around Mediterian and Marocco and connect it to GPS mouse. But problem is I have no idea how the thing works. From reading some post in this forum I understand that if I don't want to connect the laptop to a classic GPS I have to buy a GPS mouse, software and maps which I can upload to laptop and calibrate it. I think of getting the CD maps from Quo VAdis in scale 1:250000 and use those.
So, my question is. Which software would you recomend for my purpose (4x4 piste driving in MOROCCO and South Europe) and which sort of GPS mouse should I buy and where. The only mouse I found so far is something called Haicom 203E GPS receiver for about £100 from GPS Warehouse. Anybody have any experience with this type?
Any help appreciated.
Thank you

Try Touratech TTQV. By in my opinion you can easy kill your laptop. I hope your computer stand vibration and dust. If you traveling by car it will be easy, but by bike...

IMHO why bother? you need neither, especially not a laptop. spend the money on or fuel instead.

I already have the laptop. Little, few years old Sony. So I thought the little investment of £80 for a mouse doesn't sound too bad. I will be traveling by LAnd Rover, so it should be OK. I guess I nedd the GPS, as I will be meeting a few other travellers somewhere in Morocco/Western Sahara, and I can't imagine how else could we meet up without getting lost...
Is Toratech much better than OzyExplorer. Ozy is much cheaper.
thanks

I also recommend Touratech TTQV as I think it’s the best. Ozi Explorer is also a good software that’s a bit cheaper.
I recommend that you get a regular GPS not a mouse GPS since you’ll be able to store your waypoints on it as well. Sort of a backup to the computer or vise versa. I use a regular Garmin GPS with a remote antenna mounted on the hood while driving. At night I plug in the computer and plan, download and upload my waypoints and routes.
