Big Screen GPS

Hi Folks,
I am looking for a large screen GPS (4x4 use) as I am really tired of peering at a Garmin 60cs. Now I am a bit of a GPS nut, having used various GIS and GPS combinations for mapping in my job for many years. If I wanted to do realtime navigation I have a toughbook that I can link to the 60 and plot position using either mapsource/fugawi/or the DNRGarmin software to run realtime tracking on Arcview GIS software. But I am not going to drive around with a laptop up and running. So what I am looking for is a large screen GPS with a basic map (I am quite familiar with Garmin's world map) and trip computer type functions. I was thinking about Tomtom largely 'cause it could control an ipod. But does a tomtom even have a basic world map (I live in Ghana) and does it have the trip computer type functions of a garmin. I know that a garmin 276 would probably be the logical choice, but I really fancy controlling music from the touchscreen of the TT!!
Ta in advance,
Gil

The Garmin 276c is a superb piece of kit and has the largest, most detailed screen I've seen on a GPS. It's got every feature you need, and now that it's being discontinued in favour of the 278 the are some bargains on ebay. The built in worldmap on these Garmin models is now surprisingly detailed.
It doesn't play mp3's - it's not really aimed at that sort of market.
Tomtom's are great for simple A to B navigation on the highway and in cities, but you'll find the range of navigational features very limited compared to the 60Cs and there is no preloaded worldmap built into the unit. I'm not aware of any mapping coverage for your area for the Tomtom, so you'd be better sticking to one of the Garmin units.

..Any garmin chartplotter have bigger screens if you compared whit the other ones.
One thing about the 376c is his screen is very delicate, protect whit some PDA screen plastic protector because if not after a year or so is almost impossible see something in there..
In the other hand, the 276 looks like have better resistance in screen.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
