2610 not working
 

i have a Garmin 2610 on my bike I done 200kms yesterday on rough dusty roads every thing working fine. I unplugged the power lead from the unit and took it into my hotel.In the morning I connected the power lead and nothing I have power to the cigerate lighter socket.

There are 6 wires black and red from the cigerate socket brown and white from the speaker and orange and green from a socket in the side of the unit
The end that connects to the gps is sealed and has 8 metal contacts that contact the gps I want to check that the wires are not broken but untill I get a multi meter I can not do this
Does the unit just need a power and earth from the power supply if so does any one know what contacts on the power lead are to power the unit.
Just been to get a multi meter and they cost 50 euro in Albania so will have to wait till I get somewhere else

A silly point. The fuse in the plug from your Garmin is OK?
Failing that, to find out which contact you need. Couldn't you make a simple multi meter with a light bulb and 2 wires? Conect the bulb to the 2 wires then plug in your garmin lead
Then connect one wire to your bike frame as an earth, then trial and error with each contact will find your live lead on the garmin lead. Once found it should be easy to find the earth contact afterwards. Once done, if it worked :) You will be able to find out if your Garmin is OK or not. If you can't find out which contacts using this method then it maybe your Garmin lead that's defunct :) Hope this helps as I'm not an auto electrician.

OK after I typed in that long winded post I realised I had a 2610 upstairs and a mulitmeter in the garage. On my 2610 unit the bottom post is the Live and second bottom is the Earth. Hope that is more usefull to you. :) I used the multimeter on the 2610s mains lead and it reads just over 12 volts to the unit.

It was only the fuse was gone. I did not realise there was a fuse inside and as my unit and lead are both a bit battered I was expecting the worst.
