Nick Sanders

Hi,

Has any one checked out this guy yet? His round the world attempt on his R1 looks pretty intense. Just started riding and although not good enough to tackle something like this would love a stab at something on a smaller scale so if anyone has any suggestion feel free to share the knowledge.

At least you got me to reply!!, so welcome

ps Last time I looked at his website, he seemed to be moving quite slowly by his "standards".

Interesting...

..... “the fastest man around the world” on an R1 – I’m guessing he picked an R1 so it added the fast-factor for the trip. I’m now thinking is it possible for somebody to do it faster on a bike better suited for the job? Or was his route mostly on blacktop which would make it harder for the next person trying, unless you’re on a MotoGP bike

Still, I bet he had fun

Shaun

I read an account of one of his world record trips. The man is mad as a fish, barking, looney, space cadet, (you get the idea)

He is fast because he doesn't sleep. Thinks nothing of 18 hours in the saddle followed by 20 minutes sleep next to the bike then crack on.

Good luck to the crazy bast**d :-)

Nick's normally at the HU meeting at Ripley in July.

Quote from MCN about his Timbuctou journey earlier this year, "I will lead 23 riders through... the capital of Mauritania, today on our way to Timbuktu. The Ministry of Internal Affaires knows about our being here and arrangements have been made for our continued safe passage. 100,000 soldiers have been positioned en route."

Nice of the Mauri government to arrange 100,000 troops to protect Nick.

I was surprised on arriving solo and unsupported in Noackchott in January to find my chosen residence had been invaded by 28 British bikers and associated support vehicles. Made me laugh to see the scooter going to Timbuctou, but apparently he made it.

I met him and chatted to him at the bike show. He wrote in his book that I bought that I was a madder nutter than him. Coming from him, I took that as a real compliment.

He is certainly a one of a kind. We need more like him.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
