Thumbs up New Zealand - 3 day tour of the South Island (Jan 07)

Hi all

Just got wind of what looks like a great tour.....
Cheap too!

AFS Student Fundraising trip to Norway in 2007
Fully Guided - Numbers are very limited so be in fast
3 days of exhilarating adventure riding in the South Island with amazing mountain scenery, winding rivers, native forests and alpine lakes

DAY 1
You will start in the beautiful Vineyards near Blenheim, its then through the famous Molesworth Station before arriving at Hanmer Springs.

DAY 2
Back onto the saddle for another day of amazing scenery this time though travelling on some rough gravel roads through to Lake Tennyson, over Island Pass and through Devils Gate before we enter into Rainbow Station. A comfort stop at Tophouse Tearooms, a fantastic place with a horror story to match. Then its off to our next stopover, Murchison.

DAY 3
The final and longest day, through the Mataki Valley and numerous River crossings, before linking up to cross the main divide and into Reefton, then its onto Waipuna and a very special surprise will wait here. Lake Brunner and then Greymouth for the final dinner and farewells.

You will be put into teams of 2 riders, you will have challenges along the way, the team with the best score at the end of the tour wins takes the trophy
This is not a race, but a very social experience with like minded people.

Haha

The alcohol they refer to is before and during the ride.
It is totally acceptable at the end of each day!!

Cost is $450 (but to be confirmed a little closer to the time)

Also as I am the "Experienced tour operator" leading this tour, I would be happy to extend it for overseas travellers if you want at no cost

Of course the offer would need to be reciprocated one day

Hire bikes are available, I will post the link on here soon.

Cheers

did this trip a couple of months back..

...well - the first 2 days worth. We ended up bagging both days riding in one, as the weather and tracks were perfect. Stunning part of New Zealand and highly recommended. I'm a little suprised at the price though - does it include accomodation?

Hi Y kiwi

This trip maybe similar to the one you went on.
No the price does not include accommodation.

Yes you could quite easily ride the 500 odd km in one day, but this is not a trail ride, there is many places to stop along the way and take in some interesting spots and to learn about the history etc.

Cheers
