Nice work Neil!

I too have a website for the Aussies... it lists all the Aussie soldiers killed in WWI and shows which cemetery they are buried in.

In Turkey, there is no difference between them and Mehmets who have lost their lives in Gallipoli..They are heroes of the holy lands here and all cemetery well cared..

Sayings of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, M.Kemal Atatürk is the best message to the whole word, peace at home, peace on the world....

SO LET'S SAY... "those who have lost their lives instead of those who are killed."

Gallipoli
I would like to do a trip to Gallipoli to pay respects and especially to the 1st World War Submariners who took part and won VC's.

Unfortunately due to work commitments I would not be able to visit until the August. Are any bikers out there going to be doing any trips out there during August 2015 or will it all be over and done with after the April event and so nothing to go for?? Any interest anyone

There is a limit as to the number of people who can be there at once. The official services are limited to I think 15,000 people.. the Australians are having a ballot to determine who can go, the ballot is now closed but yet to be drawn. The memorials, graves and scenery will still be there... and I think I'd prefer less people, so I think you'd find it moving when ever you go. I don't know how much you'd find about the sub activities there .. might be more off the peninsular?

Well said Warin. History is full of mistakes and no one has been immune to that. We must learn and proceed because one thing is for sure, it cant be changed.
A group of 10 bikers (150-200cc) will be attending the occasion including my 84 years old father who would be flying.
Would invite friends driving from east to join MAPPERS (MAP is Motorcyclists Assoc of Pakistan) and we cross Iran and Turkey together.

I heard that there are limited spaces/allowed ticket for next years ANZAC ceremony at Gallipoli. Not sure if true or not. I know of several Australian riders riding from London to turkey for the event.

One Aussie heading that way by bike, currently planning on arrival in Turkey mid March. I didn't enter the ballot for tickets to dawn service, so won't be hanging around for ANZAC day. But I can dawdle through S.E.Asia to tag along with a group heading east to west through China if anyone's planning on going that way.
Please contact me by Sept 2014 so I can obtain appropriate paperwork.

The ABC (BBC equivalent) has a separate web page... I expect the web site streaming will be unlocked for global viewing .. Australia Remembers WWI 1914-1918 (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Relevant broadcasts start Sun 19th... there will be all day coverage on iview on the 25th .. starts around 4.30 am aest (about 24th 6.30 pm London time .. errr without daylight saving so 7.30pm?)

I am not convinced that garish is an appropriate adjective; nor would I anticipate that such arrangements will spoil things for those who are going there for the commemorative ceremonies.
Bearing in mind that there will be relatives of those who died there 100 years ago, some of them infirm etc etc, it is totally to be expected that such temporary facilities are available on the day.
Thereafter, it will return to the more usual area of commemoration.

But, for me, it is not somewhere to be on the relevant days just as I won't be heading to Waterloo this year, on or around 18 June.

Bright red IS garish and I can't believe that the organisers couldn't have found something more in keeping with the surroundings. Seen plenty of dark green chairs on the back of trucks so it isn't as if they aren't available.

3-4 months matters 100 years later?

Bright red = the colour of sacrifice, blood spilt on khaki tunics, poppies blowing in the fields perhaps?
It does for me anyway.
