Fun run to France - May 2009

Does anyone fancy a fun ride to France over the May bank holiday? A couple of years back I organised some Mini rallies from Blackpool to Paris, to raise a bit of cash for Breast Cancer Care and have a chance to get on the uncrowded French roads. Anyway I stumbled across all the bits of paper I'd gathered for it today. Only thing is, the Mini's gone and the bike's in it's place.

So anyone fancy something similar? Last time it was something like this:
  • Meet Saturday morning and ride down through the UK to the Channel.
  • Cross over-night to France
  • Ride into Paris on Sunday - slap up meal on river cruise Sunday night, hotel near Eiffel Tower.
  • Ride for the Channel on Monday, cross overnight and home Tuesday morning.
  • All up cost a few years ago per car was £260 - but bikes'd be cheaper than that (I hope).
I have to say I don't fancy Blackie to Portsmouth so much anymore, so I'd wondered about making it a bit easier and going for London to Paris instead. Makes meeting up a bit easier as it doesn't have to be till lunchtime which might mean people don't have to find somewhere to stay Friday night.

Anyway just a thought, if anyone fancied it tack something on here or drop me a Pm or mail.

sounds good

sounds good to me alex. a little run for a fun weekend after a miserable winter in wales! might get my mate who has never been abroad on his bike to go! everytime i go it's for a couple of weeks/months or more so he's never come. (he's married/divorced/mortgage/kids) so has never the money but i think i can convince him for this and it'll be a good taster for him!

Good God, a reply

I was beginning to think this was nowhere near hardcore enough for anyone, and that I should go post on MCN instead, but hey that's a reply. so at least one person other than me would like to do it.

Like you said I reckon see it as a taster, maybe a way to encourage a mate to venture further or a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/lover/other even if they sit on the pillion.

It's all very fluid though, the one's I did for Minis started by me opening my big mouth on a forum and we worked it from there. The big things is I'm happy to ring up people/haggle in French or English and send people bumpf if they want it.

So if you're reading this thinking "sounds interesting, but..." then throw the "but" in and we'll see what comes out.

And, yeah I know May is a long way ahead, the main reason fro starting to think so early is so that bookings go in early which means bigger discounts.

It's a possible

May well be up for this myself. Will be a good last chance to make sure that everything on the bike is working before I head off to Nordkapp next summer.

All depends on what days we go over the weekend and whether I can get the time off work (eg: the Friday and Tuesday if needed)

Sounds fun but which May bank holiday are you thinking of? 2nd-4th May or 23rd-25th May?
