I have been to the last 2 Dragons, 2008 was cold and dry on a very good site at Beddgelert and 2007 was on Anglesey and very wet overnight making getting out of the site interesting on sunday morning. I used my MZ for these events but this year i will take the Tiger. 2008 photo attached.
Cheers Ade.:mchappy:

I went to this 'Traditional' rally in the early to mid eighties and did an Elefanttreffen also in the early eighties, did another couple of Dragons in the 90's, but no winter rallies since and reading this thread whilst sitting on my laptop in the warm I thought Yeh wouldn't mind doing another, sent off for 2 tickets that arrived today(8th) and with the cold icy weather we are at the moment getting, I am thinking to myself, 'Thanks a lot 'Bronze'(thread starter) I may regret reading your post!.
Anyway, perhaps the hubbers can make themselves known, I will be on a R80gs Kalahari, white, with allit panniers with large 'adventure team 668 pyreknees up Catalunya' sticker on the side of pannier, be nice to say 'hello' safe trip up there guys.

Website says the rally is now full. Unfortunately that's all it says.

Any rally regulars know when the checkpoint closes? So I can plan when I'm setting out.

trophydave 17 Jan 2009 15:39

I am not sure of the times that the checkpoint closes but I have arrived there late afternoon before and found it still open,we were among the last to arrive at the rally that year.I wouldn't arrive too late,it's no fun pitching up in the dark.

Thanks Dave.

I have received my receipt for the ticket. Any one know when I can expect to receive info where the check point will be so I can plan a route.
I will be leaving from London,
Thanks

The instructions will arrive in the next couple of weeks, anything from three weeks before to five days. Don't worry, plan to be in Betws at lunchtime and the site will be within an hours ride.

I'm on Dragon rally number seven and can honestly say it's "winter rally lite" most years. Rumour is there'll be hard standing for the bikes this year, so either Canaervon Airport or the race track on Angelsey if you are a betting man, no hill top farms up snowy tracks anymore. BTW, if anyone is planning to complain about not being able to get their UltraHyperGlide over 30 yards of mud, I'd suggest you should be hireing in Florida not camping in Wales.:nono:

You will meet lots of really nice people who've done Elefants, Primus rallys and so on, plus nutters like the lads who rode from Lincoln on a pair of Fizzies and Gareth who spent the whole afternoon dressed as "The Only Gay in the Village" from Little Britain. If you are new to winter trips, the Dragon is a first class way to start.

See you there,

Andy

Frost is best

Hi there, glad to here there are a few bikes going to the Dragon. I've done several over the years. Some better than others. I must admit I prefer the farm field to Anglesy race track as last time I went it was blowing a hooly and had fun keeping the tent down. Much prefer the frost, as the grass isn't muddy.
There will be 12 of us leaving home on the Friday and spending Friday in Llangollen in a B n B. But only 6 of us will be heading for the check in, hopefully arriving about lunchtime. Plenty of time to put the tent up and see what's going on in the daylight.

Have a good run whenever set off.

ticket?

want to go this year but i notice it's full! if anyone has a ticket going spare and would like to part with it please give me a shout/pm. i went last year for the first time and had a great time!

trophydave 27 Jan 2009 19:56

Kevin,Steffan on the Thumper club website has a couple of tickets up for sale.
Welcome!
You need to look in the forum, the link doesn't take you directly to it.

TransPan 28 Jan 2009 11:42

Kevin
It might be worth sending a SAE with a cheque on the off chance that there's a ticket still available. If there is, chances are youll get the ticket and directions at the same time. At the worst you'll get your cheque back. Good Luck
Dave
