Copper Canyon HU info for November04?

Still trying to confirm pavement and roadbike-feasible routing beyond Bahuichivo/Cercahui (i.e., my waypoint from Creel, Chihuahua to Topolobampo, Sinaloa) to connecting roads accessing the coast in either Alamos, Sonora or Choix, Sinaloa. Must miss October HU meeting, due to US elections, but I sure would like to get some info' from those of you lucky enough to attend... MattPope has recommended tracking down Herr Frederico of La Bufa, but he's certainly elusive. Any help most appreciated!

Any plans afoot for real-time postings/dialogue from the Creel meetings?

Can't help on the routing question, sorry, but for the rest:

Frederico - no e-contact information - I think you'll just have to go there and talk to him in person! Archaic contact method, I know... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Real-time postings - intersting idea - but in view of the technical considerations and lack of a fast connection there, nope, not this year. If anyone is experienced in the area, or has an iridium etc phone they'd like to dedicate to the task, contact me and we'll sort it.

Sorry you can't make it! It's definitely going to be a blast. I even get to ride a little myself this year! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Don't know about the satphone, Grant, but I was really amazed last year to get a signal w/ my Verizon-networked PDA/cellphone and got on the Internet while just outside of Creel... New cellular towers seem to follow the pace of new pavement development everywhere. Perhaps the roads to Batopilas or along the railroad right-of-way from Bahuichivo to the coastroad ARE negotiable with streetwheels. I'll hope to venture down to La Bufa, insearch of Frederico, etc., if I can just reassure myself that the route is feasible.

btw - Ivan (?), the proprietor at Three Amigos (and his wife) seemed really Internet savvy and I had thought that his connection was pretty fast.

Fair winds and rubber side down!

I did that route a few years ago. The way to Temoris isn't too bad from what I remember. (Had a great lunch in Temoris, BTW. Nice little town. It got a bit rougher from there to Chinipas. West from Chinipas meant a river crossing and one of the steeper 'roads' I've ever been on. It would've been very tough if not impossible on a street bike: Deep ruts, sandy switchbacks, etc. 'Course a lot could have changed in the past few years....
