What vehicle papers are required northbound?

We'll be heading up to Morocco in a few weeks. This is the first time visit to Morocco for us and for the vehicle and we will be entering Morocco from the SOUTH not from Spain as most folks do.

What paperwork do I need to have for the vehicle and do I need to collect this paperwork at the Moroccan Embassy before showing up at the border?

The vehicle is a 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser registered in Sierra Leone and I already have my green card and insurance paperwork.

Can these papers be obtained in Dakar or do I need to get them from the Embassy in Mauritania?

you need the registration docs and the moroccan temp vehicle importation form D16, available online, Links been posted before

Temporary vehicle importation document, D16Ter

Here's the link.

Easy to complete - just don't leave any spaces in your registration number and enter all dates as ddmmyyyy not dd/mm/yyyy. Click Imprimer when you're done, print off a copy and sign each of the three sections bottom left.

If you're not sure about your date of entry you can leave it blank.

Happy trails,

Peter

I was at the Moroccan Embassy here in Dakar today and they said it is all done at the border. Nothing needs doing ahead of time. That everything was done at the border is not the impression I got reading on the forum here.

Who is right? I'll be going with the Consul's advice unless someone tells me different.

Nothing needs to be done ahead of time. The only paperwork you need for the vehicle is the registration papers (V5C in the UK, certificat d'immatriculation or carte gris in French). The D16TER can be completed at the border if you haven't done the form online. Your insurance might be checked.

If heading south (rather than north) you need a Visa to enter Mauritania, which has to be obtained in Rabat and that might be what you are getting confused with.

We get our Mauritanian visas tomorrow. Apparently nothing to do with the vehicle either until the border.

Sounds like everything is good to go then!!

Everything including the temporary import docs can be done at the border. About two hours for a first time entry with the vehicle. The biggest hassle was with the occupation. "Working" for an NGO was a little weird to them I guess.

filling the d16 online and printing it just saves time at the border
