Validity of passport for Morocco - 3 or 6 months

What is exactly the required passport validity for Morocco?

I've seen/heard 3 and 6 months...

Namely the Moroccan embassy in Lisbon states 3 months (also confirmed on the phone) given the fact that the maximum period of stay is precisely 3 months.

Has anyone been turned back for having a passport validity less than 6 months? Mine will have 4 months during the time planned trip...

Hi Luis

My advice, if you can, just to be on the safe side is to get a new passport, even if they let you in at the border you never know, how is going to be if you are stop by the police on the road.

If you are in a hurry for an extra charge you can get your passport quicker, around a few days, and pick it up at the Lisbon airport.

The standard statement copied all over the Internet is that the passport should be valid for six months, but I found an official Moroccan government webpage that stated you that if you have a fixed return ticket (e.g. are on a package holiday) the passport only needs to be valid for the length of the stay.

I can't remember the page right now, but here's another one which you will note doesn't mention the need for three or six months.

Found the URL to the page I mentioned above but it's no longer there.

A similar page is at Conseils aux voyageurs which states, "For foreign citizens arriving to Morocco as part of a tour: Passport valid, covering at least the length of stay in Morocco, is required"

I strongly advise you for at least a six month validity to avoid any hassels as this subject is defenitely to avoid any confusion or missunderstanding that may occur specially with a border Officer.

Thank you for the replies.
In order to avoid misunderstandings, since the validity would be 4 months, I'll take a new passport.

The old one was returned to me but it is written off from the official active passport list.

Now my question is: when filling the D16 in the internet beforehand should I consider my old CIN or will I be granted a new one for the new passport?:confused1:

I changed my passport twice and entered Morroco with the same CIN number which i beleive is assigned to you individually .

CIN number

As above, the CIN number is your own.

Cheers Mark

CIN

You'll get a new CIN if you re-enter Morocco with a new passport.

I don't know what the official name for the number entered in the passport is, but I don't think it's regarded as a CIN (carte d'identité national) number as only Moroccan nationals have these identity cards.

I always refer to it as the police control number.

When they first started the system they didn't check whether you already had a number in the passport before giving you a new one, and at one time I had three police control numbers in my passport.

When I got a new passport last year I was given a new number.

For information:

I went to Morocco last week with a new passport and informed the lady on the border that I had a "CIN" on a previous passport, informing her its exact reference.

She checked something on the computer and wrote on the new passport the same "CIN" as I was given before.

I entered Morocco with a new passport this year and was given a new number even though I had quoted the old number on the car entry form. I had pointed out that already had a number but was told I needed a new one.
