V5 for Morocco

Hello everyone.

My three brothers an myself are supposed to be heading off to Morocco this Saturday for three weeks but the DVLA have made a mistake with my V5. They've told me i can get a temporary one for traveling on the continent but from what i've read this wont be good enough for Morocco. Is this true?

As we've all booked the time off and spent a lot of time and money sorting the truck we are still going on saturday and will just see Spain and Portugal instead. This was supposed to be a off roading / surfing holiday so will just have to stay on the Portuguese coast for the surfing and spain for off roading.

Any suggestions on some good off roading routes in Spain would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Michael.

Get a temp V5 and go to Morocco. I recall you can get them at your local DVLA office while you wait (with all the right docs to back it up).
At worst they will turn it down but I think it's highly unlikely, especially if you do your D16 in advance (as explained here) (oh, I see someone just mentioned it)

I travelled to Morocco with a new Navara Outlaw for which I didn't have a V5C. I had purchase documents and that was sufficient though it delayed things 30 minutes or so.

What they are primarily interested in is making sure there are controls in place to ensure you can't sell the vehicle in the country, rather than making sure you're the genuine owner.

Temp V5 sorted

Thank you everyone, have just got back from DVLA in Exeter with my temporary registration certificate V379 all for £3.00. Will now sort out my D16 beforehand as advised. Feel much happier now so thank you Chris and Tim for the advice.

As for surfing my brother went last winter for a two weeks and I'll find out the name of the place.

Taghazout is the best-known surfing hangout, about 15km north of Agadir. Mainly apartment accommodation, there's only one small hotel (Le Point).

I travelled central asia with a temp V5, only had hassle once. it was on the moldovan border, got refused at one and waited 6 hours at the other. They dont have to let you in, as its an official document issued by the DVLA but it does not have to be recognised by any other country other than those that are in the EU

Better late than never.

I know it might seam odd me posting in this thread quite some time after the trip (jan / feb 2011) But I would just like to thank everyone for their advice on the subject. Just as we were heading out of our driveway the postman arrived with the real V5 from the DVLA, talk about timing.

We all had an amazing trip and the Hilux performed flawlessly. Chris's book Morocco overland came in very handy. We followed all of the advice on what you should do at the ferry ports to the letter. While lining up all the local hustlers who came up to our truck laughed and told us we were very smart when they saw we had already filled out all of our documentation. We followed the first time traveler advice and entered Morocco via Almeria - Melilla ferry route and left from Tangier.

Thanks again
