The best month to go?

Hello everyone. I have just registered with the forum. I have already read some bits but this place is just vast!

I am able to get either april or may free next year. I am looking to have two weeks in the pyrenees and then two weeks in morocco. I am expecting to mix both on and offroad, with the aim to be using a ktm adventure. I expect to mix camping and hotels/hostels.

My homework is being done now and as such this forum has already provided some valuable leads and insites. However I am still not sure which month to book. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks Zedsdead.

Morocco in the Spring

Hi Zed,

Welcome to the forum!

My preference is Morocco in April.
In the mountains most of the snow's gone so tracks should be clear. Any serious piste damage from snow melt will probably have been repaired. It'll still be cold at night at altitude but you should be able to camp OK.
In the desert it'll be warming up nicely - around 30deg C. so not too hot for riding. Not too hot for sleeping either.

Of course this is generalising - I've seen 47C in April trying to get through Oued Remlia and tracks in the Middle Atlas still blocked with snow.

Just stay flexible with your routes and accommodation and you'll be fine!

Peter, thanks for the reply. I have been given may off work. So... my rough outline for the trip has become; Portsmouth to santander. Ride across spain and ferry to ceuta. Ten days to two weeks circular route through morocco. Back to spain and up to the pyrenees. A week off road in the pyrenees. Up to nice in france were I have family. And finally a blat through france to a ferry back to blighty.

Loads of homework to do! I have ordered the morocco overland book and will be using the experience of both this and Tim Cullis's website. I will be delving into the vibracation system to find an appropriate route in spain. Fortunately I have plenty of time to prepare so I am hoping to make the best of this chance. No rush just the enjoyment of anticipation.

I have seen roads blocked in the pyrenees with snow in the last week of May :)

Flippin eck Oldbmw, that was quick. I realise I have a lot to learn! That will be half the fun of this adventure. I plan to enjoy the experience of understanding my dreams and their realities.

So between now and then I will absorb any info, knowledge and experience with gusto. I appreciate any comment, lol.
