Landcruiser Prado alternator problems- stuck in Agadir

Any one heading to Morocco in the next few days ?

We're stuck in agadir with a non charging alternator a due to festivals every where's shut. Toyota wanted £1000 for an alternator but can't get one for a week or so. We've got a new regulator arriving in the morning which may fix the problem.

If it doesn't An someone was heading this way soon and could bring a new one it save us slot of trouble. Or if someone knows we're to get an new one in agadir that would be great

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Afraid I'm just back in the UK so not much help.

It's along shot but you could give Aziz a call in Zagora - Garage Iriki +212 666 66 30 83 (His brother Said speaks better English) They may know someone in or near Agadir. He's got parts to me before either bringing them himself or by bus/taxi.

Hope that helps,

Peter

Eid is the worst time of the year to get help. But, you have one of the largest junk yards in the country at Ait Melloul, near the Agadir airport, at the highway junction of N1 and N10.
Even if the junk yard is closed, around that area there is a whole neighbourhood of garages and shops. You could probably have your alternator repaired there for a small price.

Thanks for all the replys

we've made progress. We been staying at the municiple campsite ( awful btw) and a guy turned up this morning who claimed to be a alternator specialist so we stripped off the old one and he took it off for repair.

Whilst we were waiting we visited the scrap yard looking for an alternative. After much typical Moroccan it'll be here at 2 pm then just a minute we finally got our hands on one I think we ended up paying 'desperate tourist In a festival' price and could get one cheaper at home, but we were pretty desparate

In the meantime alternator specialist returned without fixing the old one. Got the scrap one fitted and everything seems to be working perfectly now. Hopefully we'll get back off road tomorrow with a slightly modified route

We only found out about the scrap yard through reading this forum so once again has turned out to be a fantastic source of information.

The whole issue has been a bit of a wake up call. If it had happened a day or 2 earlier we would have been deep in the WS luckily we were only 30k from Tarmac when it happened. Last year we were a solo vehicle and would have been completely stuck. This year we had two. Thinking about carrying a spare alternator now and a jump start pack.

Junk yard at Ait Melloul is not cheap - they wanted €100 for a side window for my J6 Landcruiser. I said Hell no! I'll find one in Guelmin. As it turned out, I drove all the way to Nouahchott with a side window missing :/
