Sunny January through Morocco to Mauritania

Reading the reports of terrible weather have surprised me, as I have been 3 times during the 'winter' to this fantastic country and always had good weather.

i am expecting to be there from about mid Jan and will go south asap!!

Anyone like to 'team up'?

Paul

I've done most of that route at least once, the bit from R606 to Talsint is very remote but very nice. The single red line heading from Talsint towards Gourrama is all piste although the last time I did it in 2010 it was very hard, washed out gullies from the melting snow making it hard to find a way through (in a 4x4).

Sounds like I will there a few days ahead of you :thumbup1:

Hello Menih-Andrej

You can travel more or less on a piste all the way from Mhamid to Tata if the army allow it. You may have problems on the piste from Foum Zguid to Tata, I have done that piste and also been turned around by the army, I hear that a few packes of cigarettes can allow transit.

It's well worth trying the Foum Zguid to Tata leg because it's very nice.

Do you have a guide book or Garmin Mapsource? If so I can send you some gpx logs if you like?

Guy above has Chris Scott: Morocco Overland book and still asks unnecessary questions. Does he read it? I know, he did not. Major question is does he was able to manage easy MS-9? Answer is NO. He turned back after second short sand section from Anezal towards Ouarzazate, ... So he should avoid in big loop MS-8.

Short explanation from my UK friend: ... we were in landcruisers and we knew about the issues with the routes. We went down to the far west of the Draa valley, hard days but spectacular. We also had some great days in the big dunes ... not suitable for GS though, too rough with boulders and big rocks. Also rivers are deep (up to the windscreen on the landcruiser) so not passable by bike.

TheWarden 14 Nov 2012 17:19

wtf? no sand on MS9 when I did it last December

Adrej, we were in a Landcruiser and the only difficulty was washed out river crossings between Beni Tajite and Mengoub, most were gone but there was always a route through. I'm not a biker but can't see that there would be any problems

TheWarden

I mean riverbed crossing not dunes on MS-9. I was there this year June/July and Mike on MS-8 month ago.
