News from Maroc

Hi all,

First, the good news. Customs procedures at TangerMed continue to improve.

On entry, all procedures are now carried out at one booth - no need to get out of the car. Passports and D16ters checked at the same time. All done in 10 mins. New visitors (or returners with new passports) however still need to have their passports composted at a separate booth.

On exit, if you already have your ticket, you can bypass the melee at the ticket sales area and proceed straight to check-in. There are separate lanes and booths for each of the ferry companies, Balaeria, Acciona, FRS and Intershipping. All very efficient and professional.

Now the bad news. Marjane have discontinued sales of alcohol in most of their stores. We saw this in Fes, Tanger and Tetouan. May still be possible in Acima stores. If you need it, best bring it with you!

More shootings across the border at Oudja:-

No problems in the south. We called at several military check points and were told that there's increased security with more patrols, radar installations, etc. and we were politely shooed away from the frontier area.

Off east tomorrow to have a poke around near Figuig and Rekkam plateau. Anyone know the location of the old Legion fort here?

Happy trails,

Peter

Peter if memory still serves me, (it was a long time ago I rode there) I think the old fort at Atchana as somewhere on the ME3 around Km38 which roughly places it at 32.24466 -3.78781. Wasn't much of a ruin though!

Best wait for Tim Culis to come along as he probably has something more accurate.

Pete give me 30 minutes and I'll get the cords for the one I mentioned. It's further north near Tendrara Station but unless it's changed a perfect camp walls all intact nice flat area to set up and you could pots a lookout on the walls

N33 42.134 W2 07.634 cords for the fort

Yes that is the confederate flag

well that would have been 30minutes Moroccan wifi !

Had a cracking drive after leaving you guys, almost all the way to Eurocamping in Azrou on piste. But realised today I've got one more day before I need to leave that I could have used better and am now in Asilah with a day to kill.

Hi Mark,

Great to catch up with you at the same time and place as last time. Spooky!

Thanks for the fort info - I was looking near Mengoub Station...

Is the Erchugi campsite in Asilah still closed. The hotel about 1km North was OK last time I was there. The free campsite just off the autoroute at Larache is now a Marjane.

Happy trails,

Peter

Erchgui is open but pretty rough and ready I think dinosaur kem Kem has better toilets and showers. Useful stop off for the ferry though.

I'd recommend both Tendrara and Mengoub stations as a place to visit. We followed the tracks up to Oujda a couple o years back but the stations are a highlight along with a big old viaduct you can drive over (if your nerves will take it) near Bouarfa.

Good to see you again Same place next year again?

Good god the new set up at Tanger Med is efficient! I could have had another hours in bed. In fact it's so efficient that I went and did it again after Acciona forgot to give me the boarding card

Re camping, there's a site in Tangiers which we used this time last year. We pitched the tent but they've also got small chalets. Basic but ok. Turn right when you come out of the ferry port and follow the road along the coast. It veers left after a mile or so and the site is signposted on the left after another 500 metres approx.

Hi all,

Check out the new dockside restaurant at TangerMed.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...g/IMG_0956.jpg
Euro style food at euro style prices, duty free too. There's free wifi, the access code is 12345678 but it's verrrryyy sloooooww.

We exited last week. Got to the port in plenty of time. Boarding cards, exit stamps, D16, no X-ray as they couldn't be bothered, all done in 10 mins without getting out of the car. Got dockside, no ferry. 1pm sailing would now be 4pm, inshallah. Had a quick meal in the resto, slipped one of the boarding staff a couple of quid and he waved us onto another boat just leaving.
Ta, ta Morocco!

Trip report soon.

Happy trails,

Peter

Sorry, just seen this question. It was actually Tangier, not Tangier Med. No coordinates I'm afraid.
