Any recommendations for Marrakech? Welding and suspension upgrade on a Landcruiser.

edit: to answer my own question, I had the car welded and partly painted at Bab Chemat, inside the medina.

Took them all of two days, three guys on it, did a good job. Paid 4500 Dirham. Ask for Cherif Idriss. Speaks arabic only. Avoid all middlemen.
And don't leave anything in the car, as it will be lost, somehow.
There are many fixers in this block that can tackle many kinds of work on your vehicle.

I would have preferred to have the job done in Tiznit or Taroudant for half the money. But family enjoyed Marrakech, so...
I think inside the medina is better than outside.

Great little mechanic in Sale nr Rabat

I needed to get the cat torn out of my exhaust for the drive through Mauritania and we met this great little mechanic in Sale' just next to Rabat.

Head to the graveyard on the beach, you cant miss it as its miles and miles of graves, then follow the road that goes between it and the town heading north and its a shuttered shop on the right just before the secured parking on the left, just ask about in that area

He charged me 100 dh for the whole job (I gave him 150dh)

As we haven`t found much information on repairs in Marrakech I thought I would share our experience.
First of all, forget about Toyota here. Just to give you an idea why:

oil and oil filter change ~270€ (wouldn`t let me provide own oil and filter)
change tie rod ends ~120€ (tie rod ends provided by me)
aircon refilling ~90€
just looking at the fuel valve between main and aux tank without fixing anything ~60€
wheel alignment they couldn`t perform because they don`t have a station for it

The guy could speak English reasonably well so there was no misunderstandings. Obviously we didn`t let them do anything on our Land Cruiser.

We were happy with:

Tichka Distribution
100, Lot. Sakina Route de Casa
Tel.: 0524308866
N31° 39,657 W08° 00,957

Looks like just another tire shop but they are able to perfom a few more tasks and start working right away without appointments.
Friends in their Hilux got two new Monroe front shock absorbers and one stabilizer fixed for ~220€ with only 10€ for the labour.
Our oil change was 8€ for the labour and the tie rod ends including wheel alignment another 20€.
They used the big hammer method on the tie rod ends so I gave them my puller which they were very happy about.
The only speak French though but the communication was fine with the few bits and pieces I remembered from school.

Cheers
Fabian

Had a very good experience here. Fitted a rubber boot on the driveshaft of my Toyota surf. Cleaned and re-greased bearings on the same side. Then took the other side apart to clean and re-grease. Checked all grease points under the car (propshaft etc) took about 4 hours. Price started at 160€, I got that down to 70€. Friendly and knowledgable......

A big recommendation for Team Ali too. They have tons of spares for KTM, Honda, Husky, DRZ, and great prices. One of those places where you end up tipping them just to make it seem fairer....

They are so good I'd use them for servicing if they were a tad closer...

Fixed my rear rack, side stand, countershaft seal, general service, all for £30.

They are in the wee strip of mechanics, and seem happy to share work to others, i.e., the welder next door, if they do better work.

Chez Hassan: on the right side of Hotel Todra, paralel to the main street and square where Maroc Posted is situated. Mainly cars, but bikes are no problem.
Changed our brake fluid.

Garage Hamid In Erfoud specialist in Land Rovers & Toyota, the guys is an excellent bush mecanic, more than happy with the price and service.

He makes all the repairs for Auberge Du Sud in Erg Chebbi, they are the ones who informed me.

We had a problem with oil leakage of the power steering box of a disco 300TDI they were able to resolve it better than in Portugal.

Coordonates: Close to hotel Salam exit of Erfoud (last roundabout)
