Morocco to Egypt, Trying to find a route

Hi,

My name is Tony Gahegan and I am travelling around the world on my motorbike.

My website is www.tgon.co.uk

I am still in Europe but will be heading into Africa in a month or two.

I want to get from Morocco to Egypt and there are a few problems with this.

Firstly the border with Algeria is closed, secondly Libya.

I am willing to take boats, ferries, cargo trains, cargo ships... Anything.

I just need to travel with my motorbike.

Does anyone know how I can achieve this?

Some possible solutions

As I see it there are three possible solutions.

1 – Travel back to Italy, after visiting Morocco, to get the ferry from Venice to Alexandria. The problem with this is that the ferry is currently not running, although there have been stories that it will start running again next month.

2 – Travel back to Turkey, after visiting Morocco, to get a ferry to Israel then drive to Egypt over land. The problem with this is that I will be doubling back on myself through Europe again. But I did miss out on Turkey the first time round, maybe this would be a good opportunity to see it.

3 – Go to Egypt the long way around. Basically drive south from Morocco, possibly as far as South Africa, then head north again, to Tanzania, then go to Egypt after I have stayed in East Africa for a while. The problem with this is the time it will take and the amount of money I may have to spend.

I hope the ferry starts to run again soon, if anyone knows any other options then please let me know.

Tony,
In complement to your solution nr2, consider crossing Syria to Jordan.
Syria is the (big) trick, after this there's a ferry from Aqaba into Egypt.

Harry, will probably try this on 25sept and i hope he goes through

Tony,

We are embarking on a trip that takes in Morocco, Spain, Algeria, Tunisia and Italy. We call it The Med Tour. As the border btn Morocco and Algeria is Closed you have to enter Algeria another way. either go in from the north, ie Spain or from the South, Niger.

Libya should be possible now if you stick to the north coast, but there are no guarantees with the interim gov. Worth a try though, at least in my book.

We'll be posting our experiences up on the HUBB but also on our blog Riding2up Blog

BTW We leave in 7days...:mchappy:

Nice travel blogs there, I will add links to my website.

At the moment I think I will follow a route similar to Eduard from Ride to Roots.

He is going down the west coast, something like this:

Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Namibia, Cape Town (South Africa).

Sounds like an amazing trip. Do you keep a blog or will you be posting here on the HUBB?
