Morocco customs: moving things through Morocco to Mauri

I would be grateful for any pointers regarding Morocco customs.

Does anyone have any experience of driving goods through Morocco and on to Mauritania? In other words importing and then effectively re-exporting goods in Morocco within a week or so? How does this work? Do you declare the goods on arrival in Morocco and then check them out of Morocco later at the Mauri border? Are there any customs duties payable?

The answer I am hoping for is that one fills in a form listing the goods on arrival. This same form is produced on exit and the goods are signed out. No payment is due because there is no permanent import. Is this correct?
Thanks.

All I can tell you is - I was part of a rally at the beginning of Feb. Our support truck had several 100Kgs of aid (toys, medical supplies) to deliver in Mali. Driver had serious problems getting in to Morocco from Spain. He was turned down twice, on the 3rd day a more tolerant border guard finally let him through. They suspected him of wanting to sell the goods in Morocco and wanted him to pay taxes.

Not sure about the details and paperwork involved, I was not there at the time, just heard the story second hand.

No replies? If they go by the ancient pre-union Euopean practice, you had (theoretically, at least) to deposit a sum at the border and fill out a number of forms. Then at the next border you (theoretically) got your money back as you exited the country. And then the same procedure again.
Hauling antiques across Europe in your own truck could be a PIA - all those borders.

If Morocco works that way, see that you have your receipts on good order.

many thanks for the helpful replies - much appreciated.

Carinatauk, would you mind saying a bit more about how you managed to get through? Did you declare the items and say you were going to take things out of Morocco at the other end? Was the form the way this was checked?

We're not wanting to smuggle anything into Morocco - we just want to drive it all through and then into Mauri.

many thanks -Richard
