Moroccan Sand routes - recommendations

Anyone got any recommendations for some sand riding in Morocco?

Ideally some easier (flatter) routes first followed by more difficult stuff later - possibly an erg crossing if that's feasable?

I'm looking for routes with a high sand content rather than playing in the dunes (again...)

As you say, playing in the dunes of Chebbi and Chegaga is rather unsatisfying although you can cross either of these ergs, especially Chebbi, anytime, making it as hard for yourself as you like. Driving and especially riding through true ergs is hard work and dangerous and I would say even a bit monotonous - but some like that challenge.
Morocco does not have any extensive areas of sand sheet as you find in Algeria for example. Knowing both places, route MS6 best evokes the big routes over the border but is a far cry from the real thing. This is Morocko, dominated by the Atlas and so best known for it's mountain and canyon routes, just as Tunisia only really has the small dunes of the Grand Erg.
Or go down to Mauritania - plenty of sand there: rail route to Atar, low route Ching to Oudane or Ching down to Tidjikja - and of course Tidj to Nema or off piste Ouadane south to the Nema route.

You complete nutter! Riding a bike on deep sand is like pushing a shopping trolley - no idea where the front wheel is going next!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
