mind the speed traps!

In morocco at the mo and just wanted to make people aware of the large no of speed traps weve come accross. Mainly hand held, but a couple of fixed cameras too.

Also, we crossed from tarifa to tangier in the fast ferry(65 euros for a bike n rider) with no problems or hastle at all.

Sorry, but I have ZERO sympathy for anyone speeding in Morocco.

The limits are sensible and deserve to be upheld.

I have to confess to falling foul on the road to Boujdour a couple of weeks ago.

A lot of the traps are strategically placed to generate revenue (much like the UK!!) rather than for safety.

I accept 84 in an 80 is speeding, but a 1 mile straight, no other traffic, down a good gradient so either brakes or lower gear required if not to creep over the limit, and they're hidden?

Still a damn site cheaper fine than at home though!!

They also got me 72 in a 60 zone. I though it was 80.
Asked for 300 paid immediately and then said 100 is ok.
so revenues are not for the state !!

Between 1969 en 2013 I have been in Morocco many many times in all corners of the country. Highway, secondary roads, piste and offpiste, never got any fine and was never bribed.

Last year I got stuck in a river with a 10 ton truck, a team of 8 persons, 2 policeman included, helped to get me out during 4 hours till 23.00 hr in the night and showed me an alternative route driving in front till 24.00 hr in the night. They absolutely refused to accept even 1 Dirham.

Morocco is one of the most welcoming countries for tourists, please keep it that way.

GRTZ,

JP
