Is Lithium Grease any good?

I am trying to find out the best grease to use on the car for driving through the deserts as I want to grease everything up before we leave

I was goin to use Copper grease but have been told that sand and dust will stick to it so have been looking into 'Lithium Grease' as an alternative

I know this is not exacly relevant to this forum but we are driving through Morocco

Any input will be greatly appreciated

cheers

Sand and dust will stick to any grease - whether it's copper, lithium, chip fat, sun block or anything. Probably best to stick to lubing yourself with the last one (or getting someone to do it for you ).

For the car why don't you just stick to what the manufacturer recommends. You'll probably find loads of the stuff in Halfords, it's cheap enough and there can't be that many greasing points on cars built in the last 20yrs.

I normally just use copper grease for static nuts and bolts that are subject to heat (eg exhaust brackets, brake calipers etc ) that I want to be able to get apart again. If the parts move relative to each other in normal use ( stuff like bearings) I tend to use something else as I've heard that the copper part of the grease can act as a kind of mild grinding paste. Whether that's true of not I've no idea but better safe than sorry and I've plenty of other cans in the garage.

You are going to grease everything...? Can I ask what's the objective because there isn't any one lubricant (which is what grease is) for all purposes. If you are using it on moving parts you should use the manufacturers recommended type. If you are looking for a protective film maybe think about silicon spray as sand won't stick to it and it will protect but grease + sand ....

When I say everything, I mean everything that needs doing. I drove the same model, a Citroen Saxo across the Gobi desert a few years ago and everything started to seize up towards the end, especially the gear mechanism and suspension

So maybe use the manufactures recommended type then Silicon spray over that?

cheers
