dog in Morocco

Since there no countries any more to go, we plan again a trip to Morocco in december. We had the idea to take our dog with us. Anybody with some experience about this topic?
Officials - health - dog's reaction - .... everything is welcome.

As long as don't let it pie everywhere on the campsites it's fine by me.

Seen some travelers with dogs in Morocco, but they where mainly traveling with campervans. One lady we met in Rabat was on the way with her a todler and a dog, using public transport and hitch hiking. All is fine as long as the dog doesn't has to sit on the same level as the people traveling.

I have always take my dog with me for all my travels by car : 3 times in Morocco and no problem !

Did you had any troubles with "officials" at the border our boat?

Never problem with officials at any border post , may be more easy for customs : they don't like to look for anything in a car where there is a dog ! ;
On ferries the only problem is about the the interdiction for the dog to sleep in the cabin , but with a little help of luck you can cope with this .

Be sure to be OK with veterinary rules ( In France you need to have a "certificat de bonne santé" ( ie; Good health certificate ) and to be OK with anti-rabbies vaccination )

They never asked me these documents ( except one time in Iran , but it was a joke : when I showed the dog's passport at th policemen , it laughed because he didn't believe that this document really exists )
The only problem I had happenned in Georgia but it was only to take more bribes than for human passengers .

I can just confirm what is said above. A fellow traveller in -99 (Mike from Holland) brought his dog in the car. No trouble at all. Just remember that it's considered an "unclean" animal in muslim countries, so don't let it run around jumping at ppl.

I also go everywhere with my dog (actually I found it on the road) without problems, you just have to stop more often when it's hot, and I personally believe that dog has to be used to staying alone in the car (also overnight).

i am going with two dogs in my car for a 6 months in Marocco. how is vet service ?? Europian standard ?? i know that human private hospitals are same good as in Europe, what about for dogs ?? one of my dogs is needing new regular annual set of vaccines in june. is it better i do it here now (sooner 4 months) or i can do it there in june ? she is stil covered with antirabbies and lepro...... i dont like to do it before if not necessery. any tips ?? thanks...... svetlana

I take our dog to Morocco every month [whilst running escorted tours]. On every tour we have some clients who also bring their dogs.

At the Ceuta border entry point [for example] there are clear signs, on the Spanish side, listing documents required ….these include a pet style passport, resent medical and vet cert etc……

Stop and check, on exit from Morocco into Spain, is it seems random but if your dog is seen and you are stopped it will be scanned for its chip/reg and documents will be asked for as well as a vet medical report.

I have in fact been stopped twice last year and once my vet report was not stamped in the dog passport but as I and the dog {Sydney] are well know at the border we were allowed to proceed but only after a call was made to our vet.

All that aside I think consideration should be considered regarding the safety of your dog i.e. prosessionary caterpillars in woodland, wondering off in the dunes and infected local animals etc.

hi Detourer, thanks..... wondering off is not a problem couse i have two females and thay never go away from me (very posessive).... only i am worryed from infections of odher stray dogs and some insect bites... thay have recived regular (normal) annual vaccine plus against rabbies. can you recommand me some usefull vaccine i should do while i am stil in Europe? dogs i have seen in Marocco, did not look infectious sick to me, just malnutritioned. one of my female dogs was once in Marocco with me, and she played several times with a stray dogs in the parks. probably i just have to use a common sence to see if i can let them play again with a stray dogs or thay look a bit doggy. can you raccomand me some good private vet in Marocco, or is it more likely that every big town has one, couse i see many maroccans have a dogs too. first time i was only two months in Marocco, so i did not needed a vet. this time i intend to stay 6 months. i am sure in Agadir i can get a good vet ??
