Ferry Sète Nador.....

Hi all,

I would like to go back to Morocco next Easter 2011 for three weeks per Laro 90.

Have been searching on the net and of course this forum, but found some condfusing info.....

So here goes:

1) How long does the ferry take (between 30-36 hrs found);
2) No possibility for online booking, only per telephone for a UK firm?
3) What does it cost for 2 people in a LR 90, return trip, with cabin and breakfast? (€ 400 - 1000 found)

Thanks in advance and happy trails to all!

Roel

Sounds about right

There must be an agency in Belgium or France - or contact the 2 lines in Sete port.

Dont know the price but you may find it's cheaper to drive through Spain where fuel is the cheapest in Europe. Not that many people take Sete-Maroc compared to the cheaper Straits ferries. It's not quite the Med cruise many hope it to be and I found the food notably poor.

I tried it a few years ago. I just turned up in Sete (with moto) and spent a few days marvelling at the chaos of the ferry port.

I can't really remember, but it may have been around December time. No tickets available, and the next few ferries were all fully booked. That was the answer in the port ticket office. might have been the time of the year ?

At the time it seemed to be a heavily used ferry for (presumably) expats from the northern african countries. lots of ridiculously overloaded merc's.

the ferry from Almeria is an alternative to heading all the way down to the bottom of Spain and Tangier. From memory, it leaves at 10pm and docks at 6am. I turned up there and got a ticket the same day.

cheers

I think GNV is doing Barcelona-Tanger for about € 350 (two persons and one car). But their website is not really working well at the moment

Barcelona (if it works) seemed the best deal when we went in January, timewise & moneywise.
That's a looong ride down to the straits. Boring too.

Not if you go via Parque Natural Bardenas Reales :thumbup1: awesome-
Get a few paellas on the way down and enjoy the ride - motorcycles are meant to be ridden! Spain has the cheapest fuel too.
Go to the Agency owned by Carlos In Algeciras for best price tickets- 80 euros each way for a toyota pickup
(although I got a return for 600 Dirhams as the fast ferry I was booked on did not go due to storms- (which is cheaper!) & I got a refund from Carlos-
and the waypoint for this agency is

Thanks already for the anwers guys!

Last october, on my first trip to Morocco, I did the long way down from the north of Belgium to Almeria. Did 2.500 km at leisurely pace and in three days in the 90.

When I will go back next april, as far as I can see at the mo, I presume it is about the same costwise to go on a ferry for 30+ hours than to driving all the way down.

And you can relax instead of driving.... and you win a day, because you dock at night/morning instead of 17.00 hr MT via Almeria. After one day I am already in the desert then, so an additional reason to choose for Sète.
Going back is also an advantage, so when the price is right I might to it this way!

So that's why I would like to get as accurate info as possible regarding costs.

@ Priffe and gvdaa: have you got a link please?

Thanks all!

You'll find Grand Navi and Acciona have departures from Barcelona but for Tanger, not Nador. Return fare 2 people in a 4x4 is around 400 euros, making it a bargain since you will drive a lot less.

Only time I did Sete-Tanger it cost 350 euros one way.

Bertrand, coming from Sweden I'd rather spend the time in Africa. I guess if you're a brit coming with the ferry to Bilbao the Pyrenees could be a stop on the way down. The coastal road from Barcelona to Algeciras is a very tiresome 1165 kms.

ps:Im coming from Athenes and i want to win some time from Marocco. This is the reason who i don't want to go over Barcelona.

The GNV service via Barcelona to Tangier actually starts in Genoa - maybe that will save some time coming from Greece?
