Extension of temporary import for motorbike

Hi all

Hope you can help. We entered Morocco in Nador travelling from Sete in France. All immigration and customs was done on board the ship before we docked. When we went through customs at the dock, the customs official stamped and signed our D16 - temporary import permit - we had been given 1 month on the temporary import licence. I gather the standard is 6 months - so not sure why we only got 1 month. But we weren't too bothered as we planned to get to Mauritania after 3 weeks anyway.

However, we've had some problems with one of our bikes in Morocco so our stay will be longer than a month.

Does anyone know how we get this extended?
Or will it be ok when we're leaving Morocco to Mauritania? We would be probably a week over.
We've already been stung by the traffic police for a ridiculous offence in Tan Tan..... don't want to be paying more fines cos our papers aren't in order when we're leaving.

All help really appreciated.

Cheers
Gemma

EU visitors are allowed three months without a visa and this is what you are normally offered for the vehicle. Six months is the maximum you are allowed in any one year.

I've had a vehicle extension before when I had to return home partway through a trip—you need to visit a customs office to do the paperwork. These are to be found near airports and sea ports. Where are you at the moment?

Tricky one...

Hi Tim

At the moment we are just about to go from Agadir to Rabat.

One of our bikes broke down between Laayoune and Boudjour. Got the bike back to Laayoune - but it needed parts from UK. So ordered parts - went to Agadir to collect. (Still in Agadir - just got the part today after 1 week and nearly 100 euros customs tax!). In the meantime our Mauri visa has expired so our next stop is Rabat to get a new Mauri visa. Our bikes and most of our luggage and paperwork are at the the hotel in Laayoune.

However all that is in hand - we hope - the part should fix the bike, we'll get a new Mauri visa.

Our problem is that on inspection of our temporary import licence for the bikes - as explained on previous post, they only gave us 30 days. Which are up on 24 Nov. There's no way we'll be out of Morocco by then.

Guess we could try the airport customs office in Laayoune?
Guessing we'll need our V5 documents to do this which are back in Laayoune. We have copies with us if that'll do and we could go to a customs office in Rabat...

Hopefully will be back in Laayoune by Friday 24 Nov.

All advice gratefully received.

Cheers
Gemma

Quick update

We went to Douane in Laayoune who sorted us out fairly quickly and easily. No charge.

Cheers
