Campsite near Ifrane Morocco
Hello

Going with a few friends in April next year and I am looking for a good campsite near Ifrane for a first night. Should be a resonable drive in the one day subject to the time spent at the border in ceuta.

Any advive welcome.

I love the area around Ifrane and Azrou. Take a look at this thread on ThornTree about the wild monkeys.

I've stuck a red blob on the map in that report to show the location of Camping Amazigh, a lovely friendly place on the outskirts of Azrou. GPS coordinates N33 26.934 W5 10.198

Ifrane-Azrou are on the edge of the Cedra forests, so IF you behave, clear-up any mess, careful if you light a fire etc etc you can wild camp......But after a ferry crossing, drive etc you may arrive in the area a bit late [dark].

Tims' info is as always spot on......just to add, the rather spendid Emerites Euro Campsite, just along the Azrour-Ifrane road is now open.

Are these roads suitable for 1 WD?

We will be there in 5 weks and this sounds like a great place to have a look at......time is getting closer...time to start planning i think!!!

Just an observation.

That's around 230 miles from Ceuta looking back at some of my route logs, it will be a very long day.

I should be in Morocco around April as well

I've often made Azrou my first stop in Morocco. It's a lovely town especially if you can be there for the Tuesday morning market, the largest in the Middle Atlas.

Tanger is the best crossing, especially now the new Tanger Med port is open. Take the motorway from Tanger Med to Larache which gives you some time to get used to the fact you're in Africa, then cut across to Azrou via Sidi Kassem and Meknes.

Stop at Paysage d'Ito between El Hajeb and Azrou for the marvellous view.

Thanks for the help - Yes it is a long drive but we will be on a early ferry and if we run out of time will just stop on route.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
