Call to boycott Morocco over Western Sahara human rights violations.

Well worth a starting point for those new to the Western Sahara / Saharawi peoples situation.

Boycott Morocco plea to UK tourists over Western Sahara 'abuses' | World news | The Observer

erm NO!

still going back to a country I love again this year. How about the Guardian urges people to boycott Spain until they give Ceuta and Mellia back to Morocco, or a boycott of the UK until we give gibraltor and te falklands back?

priffe 27 Apr 2014 14:06

No

liammons 27 Apr 2014 15:54

How about no?

Perhaps we should boycott the USA because of its actions throughout the Middle East, etc?
Perhaps we should boycott the EU because of its actions in Ukraine etc?

The list is endless, if we want to right the worlds wrongs, the place to do start doing that is at the ballot box in our home countries.

The vast majority of the Saharawis alive today were actually born in refugee camps in Algeria, have never seen their home country, and are unable to leave the camps because of the bullying tactics of Polisario. Algeria is as much to blame for the miserable existence of the Saharawis as the Moroccans.

Morocco has invested billions in Western Sahara and isn't about to hand it back, so it's time people got over it and moved on.

Yes it's unfair, but so are many other things in this life.

Would you mind to share with us a definition of the term Saharawi that justifies such statement?

And of course big Yes for ignoring the Moroccan tourist infrastructure from me, I'm already practicing this for years as I cannot turn a blind eye to what I experienced personally.

Share the word!

Bit of irony there with you proposed guide to the pistes of the WS isnt there?

If you published it it would only encourage tourism in the WS

African Union meeting in Addis Abeba. All countries of Africa are represented with an exception for Morocco, since they are not a member. Instead there is a delegation from SADR/Polisario.
But Morocco has someone present, a young woman who happens to be Sahraoui and born near Guelmin.
Union africaine | Maroc : Mbarka Bouaida, une Sahraouie à Addis
Morocco is about to invest 12 billion euros in Western Sahara in the next 10 years.
Sahara occidental | Maroc : très cher Sahara
This is expected to create 120,000 jobs, in a region with one million inhabitants.

Come on people, please keep personal political views to yourselves.
Horizons is for travel information exchange etc. but, IMHO is not a platform to voice individual political views/ideology. These inevitably lead to heated arguments which we can all do without.
The 'No Bull' is discretionary but best kept in the Hubb Pub!
Thank you

In our opinion, there are few, if any, completely uncontroversial countries/regions in the world. Whether it's Canada's treatment of our aboriginal inhabitants, the practices of colonial powers in Africa, South America or elsewhere, religious conflicts and present-day land grabs and disputes over resources, there are few - in fact almost certainly - no nationalities that are without sin and can cast the first stone.

We're a travel information site, not an opinion or political discussion site. We're also a global site, with visitors from 150+ countries and all major religions. That means there's bound to be someone with an opposing opinion on almost every political or religious topic.

To be clear, letting people know that there are riots in a city is useful information. Your analysis of the historical injustices behind the riots, and your opinion as to who is right and who is wrong, is not directly useful. Anyone travelling to a country can choose to immerse themselves in the historical and political situation there before going, and should certainly have at least a basic understanding of the potential issues there, if only to avoid provocation. We also encourage people to be sensitive to the situation of peoples in the countries they travel to and help when they can.

We have learned, often the hard way over the years that letting people voice opinions on politics or religion, however sincerely held, just results in bun fights, :taz: and hurt feelings and ultimately discourages people from participating and contributing useful information.

So, as has long been the standard here, political and religious discussion/arguments/fights are banned.

Grant and Susan
