A little advice for Morroco in winter...

Hello!

I'm planning on going to Morocco for 2 weeks. Is November a reasonable/good time to go? Everyone's telling me it's freezing/raining. I'm planning on staying mostly north riff and down to fes, meknes. Is it feasable?

Any advice on what kind of gear/clothing I should embark with me?

For the bike I will be doing a standard servicing before leaving (oil, filters, brakes). I'm bringing 2 spare inner tubes, but not too sure about which other tools and spares should come along? (Transalp 600)

Thanks for the tips!

Hello gramouk

Can I ask why are you staying north?

I'm going late December and will be heading to the desert quickly although via Azrou Imilchil etc. hopefully to see snow in the Atlas Mountains.

For example staying on tarmac the N12 from Foum Zguid to Assa is stunning IMO.

!

Other current threads in here are reporting recent heavy rainfall, so, yes, it happens!
The Michelin map 742 for Morocco has a simple climate chart which clearly shows heavy rainfall occurs during the winter months more or less anywhere in the north of the country. It gets drier the further south you go - logical enough.
Like all countries, the rainfall will tend to be heavier on the higher ground and it may well turn to snow i.e. you can bet on it, with, for instance, mt Toubkal (spelling??) at about 4000m high.

Hence, dress appropriately for the time of year, climatic conditions and the day-to-day weather variations in the climate etc etc. - all the usual stuff for riding!!

In Rabat now

We rode here from Nador to Fez, then Fez to Moulay Idriss, then to Rabat. The weather has been shocking, wind and rain the whole way. Only in Rabat to get Mauri visa then we'll be heading south as soon as we can - tomorrow fingers crossed.
Bring wet weather gear and be prepared to be cold and wet most of the time while riding.

The sun is actually shining now and the weather report for RAbar tomorrow is dry until midday.

Maybe you will be lucky.

Weather in Morocco, north area, is quite similar to (inland) South of Spain so yes, it Could be cold and rainy, especially as you travel further inland.

Greetings.

Thanks for the input. This is what I feared, but I've been told it's rather warm atm. Still undecided...
