budget

i am thinking of renting out my flat and taking off for a year ,the flat rental will bring in about £5000.00 a year ,i am just wondering how far and long that money would go in africa ,or south america ,i do also have savings, but i would like to hear from anyone who has spent a year in either africa or south america, what is a realistic budget for a year on the road in either of these countries ? . thank,s

$1000 per month is low but realistic number in South Am, after you and your bike are there. Plenty of other posts on the subject tho.
Good luck

I´d agree with Jim. 1000GBP per month is about right. Its what I aim for. Some months I spend more, others less. However, the longer you´re on the road the more often ´hidden costs´creap in. e.g. when insurance comes round again at the end of year 1.

Cheers
Chris
P.S: Jim - married yet or what?
