I'll be riding from Bucharest to Turkey, to Egypt and the Middle East, shipping to India. This will be in March and April of this year.

Take care and see you soon.

Hi Saleh.
It's nice to meet people offering help in other places.
I'm flying to Dubai in some weeks. One year ago the chances to rent a big motorcycle in Dubai were limited to Harleys. Do you know if there are now any other brand available for renting?.
Thank you and best regards from Spain.
Angel.

Matt Roach 11 Dec 2012 01:16

It is possible to rent off road bikes from Sandstorm. Unfortunately I do not have any information in relation to large road bikes.

Amsterdam to Melbourne 2014

Hi, I am planning to ride my BMW F800GS from Morocco to Dubai starting February 2014. I just wonder what would be the best route to travel from Eqypt to Jordon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and UAE.

I believe it is very difficult to get visa for riding motorcycle in Suadi Arabia. Is it easy to get visas for other countires?

Dubai355 13 Dec 2012 09:38

Hi Channey

thanks for your enquiry
about traveling from Egypt to Jordan, there is a ferry line between those 2 point and its easy to book and load your bike.
as Saudi is in the middle of GCC you will only have the option of fright the bike from Jordan to UAE then ride to Oman.
you will not be able to enter Qatar because saudi is having a land between UAE & Qatar.

i wish i clear the point, glad to answer any other questions

Regards
Saleh From Dubai

Hi Saleh. My wife and I have moved to Dubai, and are trying to work out whether to buy bikes here, or ship our bikes here from South Africa . Can you tell us what the implications are to import our bikes to Dubai?
Looking at BMW here, the prices seem a lot higher than South Africa!
I hope to meet you soon!

Madrid-Dubai

Hello Dubai 355, all

I'm planning a trip from Madrid to Dubai via Iran on Sep '14 and still gathering information. I'm currently living in Dubai and miss my GS a lot so I decided to bring it and as a excuse, spoil my self with such an awesome adventure.
I will apply for my Visa and cdp soon so hopefully will get to know you once I'm there.
Do you know of any agency in Dubai to help me once I get there to register my bike?
Do I need the cdp to get into the UAE? And if I get my bike registered ther, will Inget my cdp deposit back?

Thank you very much!

cycad 1 5 May 2014 10:14

I had my GS brought in by Al Futtaim relocation. They also registered it for me.
With crooks like relogulf still on the market, I was happy to have hired a blue chip transporter.
PM me if you like their details
Cheers
(driving my bike every single day to work and so happy to have it here. Beats traffic jam every day)

Quicos 10 May 2014 16:10

Thanks Cycad, I will if I have any trouble doing it myself. I'm more concern with the preps about getting here right now. Thanks for your offer.

Dubai355 11 May 2014 09:28

Hi & Welcome
looking forward to meet you
sure you can re register the bike throw RTA (it will need some additional paper work from customs + 5% of the bike value to be paid)
am not sure about the cdp but we can check with the motor tourism club.
are you in dubai currently?
Regards
Saleh

Quicos 3 Aug 2014 21:46

Ok, I've finally had the chance to go to the Dubai Motorclub and they say that CDP is not needed to enter the UAE. It doesn't really make a difference to me since I'm comming throug Iran where it is needed but maybe someone can use the info. They also told me that I have one month to register the bike here.

Just over one month now before the trip!
Cheers,

Quicos.

Keith1954 4 Aug 2014 10:54

Hola Quicos

A couple of months ago - back in June - I temporarily imported my motorcycle into the UAE.
  • I air-freighted into Dubai, from Kathmandu
  • I shipped-out, by ferry, to Bandar Abbas, from Sharjah
HUBB member 'Dubai355' (Saleh) was very helpful throughout my whole visit, including the import/export processes.

Dubai Airport-based Customs (inbound) clearly did not seem to understand the import process, when a vehicle enters under cover of a carnet, and didn't follow the correct protocol; the whole procedure was quite comical. For instance, they stamped-in the bottom counterfoil of the carnet page and then handed the counterfoil back to me, insisting that I should retain this paper slip for safekeeping! - I still have it today .. :confused1:

There was no mention of registering my bike within a month, or within any other time limit.

Shipping out from Sharjah was different. I used Al Hili Marine Services in Sharjah to organise everything. They were very good and efficient. Take enough cash, as they do not accept payment by credit card.

On the day of departure, when I got into the dock area at Sharjah, the first thing the Ferry Marshall - Mr Raju*, cellphone # 0503078536 - wanted to see was my carnet. He took this and arranged the exit stamp with Sharjah Customs on my behalf and later returned the document to me.

* Another helpful guy, who is good at his job. :thumbup1:

So as you can see, the UAE Customs import and export conditions were muddled and inconsistent. My view is that it is probably better to enter the UAE with a carnet, as by doing so you cannot go wrong.

Finally, back in June, the ferry cost of shipping one motorcycle and two people across the Strait of Hormuz from Sharjah to Bandar Abbas, Iran, were:

Bike: AED 1,300 - USD 360
Pax: AED 350 each - USD 100 each

This was the 'Western' price. I have a feeling it might be cheaper for Iranians (and maybe other Middle East travellers).

Good luck with your planning.

Regards

Keith

Quicos 4 Aug 2014 11:19

Hola Keith,

Thanks a lot for the info.

I will be riding all the way until Bander Lengeh or Bander Abbas not sure yet, and then ferrying into Dubai or Sharja so the process might be slightly different. Anyhow I'm going to ring Mr. Raju to see if he has some advice for me.

I will have a CDP, thanks for that, but the guys at the Automobile and Touring Club UAE told me it's not a must...

Ál Hili is also the company I've contacted for the ferry but they give me different dates of travel than Mr. Razieh from Persitours so I'm a bit confused. Are there different compasnies which opérate on different days of the week??
Al Hili says Bander Lengeh - Dubai on Sundays and Tuesdays and Persiatours Saturdays and Wednesdays...
I want to buy my tickets here in Dubai before leaving to Spain to start the jorney but it seems is not that easy.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll let you know how it goes!

Take care,

Quicos.

Keith1954 4 Aug 2014 11:59

Quicos, I can only talk about ferries schedules from Sharjah to Iran.

We departed Sharjah --> Bandar Abbas on the Tuesday evening ferry. My understanding is that it goes:

Sharjah --> Bandar Abbas on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays
Sharjah --> Bandar Lengeh on Mondays and Wednesdays.

No ferries work on Fridays or Saturdays.

In the opposite direction - I am not sure of the departure days, but it would make sense if it were reciprocal.

Ferrying from/to the Port of Dubai could be (probably is) different again, which would make sense.

Bottom line: don't confuse the schedules from/to Sharjah and Dubai. They are different and distinct ports of entry and departure, with no doubt differering schedules.

[edit] And I'm talking about the schedules that prevailed back in June, which I guess could have changed by now.
.

Quicos 5 Aug 2014 13:47

Keith I'm aware there are differnet ports with different schedules and dates of operation, but thats not what confuses me.

I'm travelling from Iran into UAE
Ferrys from Iran are either departing Bander Lengeh or Bander Abbas.
If you depart Bander Lengeh you arrive to Dubai.
If you depar Bander Abbas you arrive to Sharja.
Till here all clear.

Now: agency in Iran and webpagehttp://www.irantravelingcenter.com/valfajr8_persian_gulf.htm
say ferry from Bander Lengeh departs Saturdays and Wewdnesdays. They have confirmed this to me via email and phone.

Agency in Sharja (Al Hili) says that the same ferry form Bander Lengeh departs Sundays and Tuesdays. I've spoken and requested confirmation and they insist.

So that is why I wonder if I'm speaking with agencies that work with different companies which operate on different dates.
Anyhow I'm going to go tomorrow to Sharja and speak with them face to face and see what they say.

Thanks for your help,

Quicos.

As you say Quicos, it is indeed confusing.

I think you are definitely doing the right thing by going to the Al Hili office in Sharjah.

There is parking space right outside their office. Avoid going there at lunchtime, as I think it might closed for an hour then (but not absolutely certain about that.)

Ferry Iran - UAE (Info summer 2014)

Good mornig,

Just arrived form Al Hili office in Sharja, thanks for the directions Keith.

Ive spoken with Mr. Nazer

NAZER
AL HILI MARINE SERVICES LLC
GROUND FLOOR, IKHLAS TOWER,
AL KHAN AREA, SHARJAH.UAE.
TEL: 0097165288575
FAX:0097165288574
MOBILE:00971504634379
Email: nazer@alhili.com

There is only one company sailing between Iran and UAE as a regular service.

Two main ports to come from Iran to UAE, Bander Lengeh and Bander Abbas.

Ferry from Bander Lengeh departs Sundays and Tuesdays evening, and arrives Dubai around 8 AM the following day.

Ferry from Bander Abbas departs Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays evening arriving into Sharja around 10 AM the following day.

There is no way to buy tickets in advance if you want to travel in the Iran - UAE direction. If you are doing it in the opposite direction, Mr Nazer sells tickets at his office in Sharja.

He recommends to travel via Bander Abbas instead of Lengeh. Services seem to be "more regular" and staff more profesional. Yo can pre-arrange your travel details from Bander Abbas - Sharja with Mr. Zarei +989175079270 who will assist you with the tickets and paperwork once you arrive. It is recomended to arrive to Bander Abbas one day before intended departure specially if you are travelling with a vehicle.

That's pretty much all there is. Now, from my experience, don't try to contact Valfajr through their webpage because they will forward your inquire to some travel company which will try to sell you a ticket in who knows what kind of boat. I was told by them yesterday that I could not travel from Lengeh with my motorcycle because that boat couldnt take cargo, only pax... I believe their schedules are not updated and they are not accurate or professional at all.

Hope it helps,

Quicos

Does anyone know of bike shops in Dubai where you can get oil, filters etc and also apparel (my boots are falling to pieces). Also any suggestions on budget accommodation and bike friendly places would be greatly appreciated!

I absolutely cannot avoid to say a huge "thank you" to Saleh and the Dubai Riders for his/their hospitality during my motorcycle trip of United Arab Emirates and Oman that lasted from Dec. 19 to Dec. 27.

Saleh made me feel a welcomed guest and provided me with all one can need (and even more) for an unforgettable stay in his Country and Oman, letting me have an incredible help for some necessities I had during these 2200 km I rode in the two Countries.
For sure I will display with honour the stickers of Dubai Riders on my Super Ténéré and on my car.

Saleh, you have been a great friend and above all a great motorcycle fellow, I will never forget the rides and the time we spent together with your friends from Dubai Riders in town, you guys surely know what the brotherhood between motorcycle enthusiasts means.

I can say that it's because of your hospitality and wonderful treatment that now I can call Dubai "home".

Thanks, mate, I hope to meet you again in Italy, my Country, to pay you back what you have done for me, even if it will be very hard to be at the same, incredible level.

Cheers,
Nick

Enduro Tires in UAE

Hi Saleh,
could you give me an advice, where can I buy some sets of Enduro tires in Dubai to take them to Oman with me?
Thanks Ben

samyonboard 2 Apr 2015 00:18

What kind of tires you want and what sizes? Maybe there is a plan in Muscat, I've seen a whole stack of MX tires in "my" mecanics workshop. The boys around Muscat MX track are bringing stuff in from Dubai.

samyonboard 2 Apr 2015 00:28

Saleh,

Do you know if an expat can take his/her motorcycle out of UAE with the original registration plates ?

I have taken my bike out earlier (to India) using the tourist permit issued by the traffic police but not sure how it would work if one wants to take the motorcycle out permanently.

I've read some reports about the traffic dept. not allowing motorcycles to be taken out of UAE with the original registration plates and insisting that the owner de-registers the motorcycle and installs export plates on it. This would definitely cause issues with the next country of entry no ?

thanks

Dubai355 21 Dec 2015 08:23

Yes you can ride your motorcycle

Dear Vicky

if you mean you want to ride your own bike abroad and re enter UAE then its posabile, but after issueing a cartnet from UAEATC and pay a deposite for it.
overall yes you can drive/ride your own vichle abroad.

Regards
Saleh

I guess my query was not very clear. Apologies for that. Let me re-phrase the question.

If an expat living in UAE wants to leave the country on a world tour along with his/her motorcycle (permanently), can he do so with the registration plates ? OR does he/she have to de-register the motorcycle, install Export plates and then leave the country ?

Is there any way to leave with the original registration plates (not Export plates) ?

cheers

Italians Starting from Dubai to Italy

10 Attachment(s)
last week we received our Italians friends, who decided to ship their bikes to Dubai and ride all the way back to Italy.:thumbup1:
they struggle with the shipping company as they didn't know exactly how to deal with Carnet doh, we interfere and guided the shipping agent on the right process.:scooter:
on Thursday the shipper deliver the bikes to our location, in the afternoon the Italian arrived and they started fixing the bikes and preparing their bags.
as they will be touring the city and having few pictures on Friday.
on Saturday we visited the Ferry office and made all the booking and paper work for the next day ferry to Bander Abbas in Iran.
Sunday Morning they head toward the port and prepare their thing for the departure.:scooter:
on Monday they clear everything at the Iranian port and move forward.
i wish them a safe and enjoyable trip.:mchappy:

@Dubai355

I'm planning to do a week long trip to Oman next spring, end-Feb/early-March. Don't know if I'll fly to/from UAE, but if so, are there any good rentals? Do you need some sort of permit to enter Oman w/UAE registerd bike, ridden by 3rd nationality?

Cheers
Senna

Hi Senna
You are more than welcome.
Entering Oman by bike is easy and just some boarder formalities,
Till that time we can arrange an advanture bike for you, but at this moment we don't have any advanture bike rentals in the country, you can fine some HD and sport bikes but no ADV.

Cheers mate,

We're hopefully a few (three - four) who'll be able to make it down south to UAE/Oman. How many days you reckon we should aim at, if we want to ride mostly, and have a day or two off?

Should we be looking at bringing camping gear, or is it easy to plan a route going from town to town?

Senna

Dubai355 20 Oct 2016 21:25

Hi senna, you r more than welcome, 2 weeks will be great period to visit Oman and UAE. No need for camping as you can find hotels every where, you can camp on some beaches in Oman and Khasab.
If you need additional info feel free to ask

Hello Saleh,

Hello anyone else thinking about a ride to Dubai.

Just do it!

We did it, and had the privilege and honour of meeting Saleh.

I will not go into details, here's just a short story:

Our Croatia-Oman-Croatia ride was stopped in Dubai, on the way back from Oman. I got seriously ill, had to be hospitalized for a few days, could not finish the ride back home.

Saleh's hospitality, help and friendship was immesuarable. He helped us in every way, without him we would still be in Dubai, trying to organise transport for the bike. Now we are at home, the bike is somewhere at the sea between Dubai and Europe, and we have a new friend in Dubai.

Saleh, thank you for everything.

Boris

p.s. If anyone's interested in recent info about Turkey, Iran, Oman, or ferry between Iran and UAE, just ask :-)

info motorbike rent in Dubai

Hello Saleh,

My name is Tommaso and I'm from Italy.
Luciano_bragg suggested me to ask you if you know company that rent motorbikes in Dubai.
My idea it's to go to Oman starting from Dubai, period end of December.
I'm oriented to an enduro bike , not very big but comfortable for a 7 /8 days round trip.
I know there is the possibility to rent motorbike in Oman but I will start from Dubai .
Thank you in advance for your kind informations.

Hi Saleh,
I should be in UAE in early March, then I go to Oman and back UAE to take the ferry to Bandar Abbas.
Do you know the ferry scheduled in the days before the Nowruz (Persian New Year) March 21 2017?
The shipping company asks me an insurance before the UAE customs, you know something about it?
Thanks
Roberto

Hi Roberto
You are welcome to visit us and you enjoy our ride
You cannot depend on the ferry schedule so early specially as they are having the new year, we can check with few weeks in advance before your departure.

I can arrange the insurance in advance few weeks before your arrival.

Hi, Saleh, I'll give you a quick look forward to your availability.

Since we do not have much time to go back and forth, we would like to send the bikes to Oman or EAU and then land back across Iran again.

Can you give some advice on who to contact for motorcycle expedition?

Thank you.:thumbup1:

In Uae you can visit many places in the 7 emirates, but you will enjoy Oman for sure a lot of riders keep Uae as translate and spend the most days in Oman.
I can refer you to some good Italians friends who ride in Oman up to salalah.

hi there,
i'd like to have some tips as I'm planning a trip to Iran, with end in UAE for ship out the bike and fly back
I'm ok with shipment, just need some tips about reliability of ferries in the gulf and possibility of a temporary insurance in UAE (no more than 3 day riding)
you can also PM me so we don't bother other riders
