Visum on the border? Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Libia

hello
I have a question about the visa. Is it possible to buy visa from syria, jordan, egypt and libia on the border? Because in the summer holiday we want to drive from tunisia to libia, egypt, jordan, syria and turkey. But we don't no if it is neccessary to get a visa from the ambassy in advance or if it is no problem to get on on the border. I believe syria needs to happened in advance. And jordan, egypt and libia are not clear to me. For example I ring the ambassy of egypt twice and the first time they say it no problem to get one at the border en the second time they say it is not possible on the border and you have to arrange a visa in advance. So who can help me. PLease. Who have any experience with this countries.
thanks in advance

I did the same trip in 2002.
As an Italian, the visum was issued at the border in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.
We needed the visa in advance for Lybia and Syria. Actually the one for Lybia is quite complicate to be obtained. It requires LOI, assistance at the border and most likely a guide for the all trip in the country (luckily in 2002 the assistance of a guide was not mandatory for just 2 people on one motorcycle).
I guess, since we are both citizen of EU, for you, as a dutch, the rule for visa should be more or less the same.
I assume you know that for Lybia and Egypt carnet de passage is mandatory (and higly reccomended in Syria).

Just a note of caution:

If you intend to acquire visas at the border, make sure you cross at one of the main crossings, for not all crossings are equipped to issue visas. We ran into this problem with 2 crossings from (eastern) Syria to Turkey.

do you mean it is not possible to get the visa from turkey at the border from syria/turkey in the east part of syria. Or do you mean a syria visum when you go from turkey to syria.?

We were going from Syria into Turkey. Turkish border checkpoint was too small and was not equipped to issue visas.

Jordan & syria visas

hi!

Me and my mate (Swede and Aussie) in a Australian plated car went from Egypt to Aqaba. Customs and visa took less than 1.5 hours at midnight on arrival. No carnet used. Amazing coming from Egypt taking one full day to stamp out and drive onto the ferry. :-)

Syria everyone said was impossible without visa in advance. It was not possible to get one in Cairo so we gambled and it worked out well. People say it is a hit and miss and works sometimes and sometimes not.

As there are quite new regulation on the syrian visa that you have to apply in your residential country we would have had a problem.

Our carnet had expired too.

We went to the smaller border north of Irbid/Ramtha in Jordan.

We got the visa at the border 30 USD
TIP (temporary import instead of Carnet) at the border 88 USD
Insurance: 36 USD
Diesel tax 100USD per week

Some extra USD for stamps and so.

We had no problems but be sure you have no Israeli stamp and also have not exited to Israel and entered Jordan. They know the border town stamps.

thanks..................but I think that we will try to get the visa in advance for syria. you will never know sure. Only I hope to hear something about the border form libia. Is visa neccessary in advance?

Visa is high required for Libya.
you can obtain (through Libyan tour operator) upon arrival visa while check-in at the border.
you can contact : info@fessano-w-tours.com regarding border assistance and visa formalities.

Carnet de passage

I called the Romanian Auto Club to get info about Carnet de Passage and they said me a horrible information: the CP costs 500 euro but I have to give them a waranty .... and the starting level of this waranty is 16.000 euro ... huuuh are they health in mind? Is this CP so expansive in your countries too?

So we think to start to Syria and Jordan without CP. If it is possible we'll pay for temporary import at the border ... I hope it is possible. And if it costs just 88 USD like you said, it is the better choice.

Maybe ...

look at ADAC - Ihr Partner in allen Fragen rund um die Mobilität. (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club)
and then search for ''carnet de passage''. there you will see how it works.

For Syria see here.

Entering Jordan with motorcycle w/o Carnet and issuing VISA on the border:
  • 30 day VISA around 22USD
  • TIP for the bike around 50USD
  • 30 day insurance for your motor 32USD
  • no disel tax for petrol engines

Jordan border posts are much more modernly organized compared to Syria. It is certan that you can get the VISA on the border. Computers, logical infrastructure and stuff. Much easier, straightforward and quicker, less expensive too :)

Ride safe in the Middle-East traffic lunacy, Margus
