Motorcycles in Jordan?

I am moving to Amman, Jordan next year.

What are the restrictions on motorcycles in Jordan?

I have heard rumours that there is a cc cap on bikes all the way to they are just banned.

Can anyone set me straight?

I'm moving to Jordan this year. And I was wondering exactly the same thing. Sorry I can't help.

The only 'rumour' I've heard so far is that you can only import them as part of a business, like these guys -

Though there could well be private owners out there. It requires more research.

More clarification needed

Thanks for the post. At least I know I am not the only one out there.

We almost need someone who lives there rather than someone who has traveled there to answer this one.

Really hope that I can get this clarified soon.

I'll be living there from September on, but that's not really 'soon' is it?!

I'm just going to put up a question on another forum. See if anyone replies.

All prohibits are for local people.(Even the king has some bikes.)
Carnet de Passage is a must. Otherwise you will be deported to the Israel border from Aqaba 10 km.away.You have to hire a customs officer for 40 euros to deport you. (Andon's diary..2011 jan.)
(Severals members travelling in the areas continuously)

some more information

Some stats on Jordan
Area: 89 206 sq km
Capital: Amman
Language: Arabic although a lot of people can speak English
Money: Jordanian Dinar, 1JD = 0,91 Euro
Official name: Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
Population: 6.2 million
****************
Places you must see.
********************
1-Petra: this is the place where Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade were filmed. It consists of sandstone formations which were carved out as a temple.
2-Dead Sea: the lowest place on the earth and with salinity content so high that one drifts on the water without sinking.
3-A few game reserves and wetland sanctuaries where I will be able to spot birds and game.
4-Bethany beyond the Jordan where Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist.
5-Amman the capital of Jordan.
6-Kings Highway what is supposed to be a beautiful road through the desert?
7-wadi rum...The well known film “Lawrence of Arabia “was filmed in the Rum desert.

Best wishes

Maybe also a Kawasaki dealer -

Jordanian Motorcycle Trading - Kawasaki | Facebook

I think Googling specific manufacturers may be the way to go rather than a general motorcycle dealer.

And the "Imps Motorcycle Display Team" are appearing in Jordan in June and The King of Jordan is keen to establish his own "Imps" style team. So things may be improving.

All encouraging news

The question now becomes, can I import my bike rather than buy there... the devil is in the details.

The wonders of facebook

I found this group on facebook ( Motorcycles for Sale | Facebook ) and someone was kind enough to give me some more information.

Apparently you can ride a motorcycle, if you live in jordan, as long as you belong to "the royal motorcycle club". I have no idea yet what it takes to become a member but it is now becoming more clear.

The biggest hurdle now is to how to get the bike imported to the country.

I was in Amman last month and noticed I only saw police on bikes. I asked. You have to join the club and it was something like 1,500 JD a year. I finally saw a Harley on one of my last days visiting.

When I took this job in Saudi they said we'd have a week off every 4-6 weeks that we could travel. I figured I'd make Amman my 2nd city so I was looking for bikes/cars. I got back and they canceled that plan. Bleh.
