Visa for Iran at Ankarra Embassy?

Yes, big question. Has anyone managed to get an Iranian Visa like on the road, at an embassy in Turkey or Jordan as opposed to in one's home country?
Thanks Manfred, in Vienna

Iran Evisa service.

Has anyone had any experience of using this service. Is it as fast as they say?

Using a visa service is your best bet for Iran. As for wait times, I was promised 2 weeks by IranianVisa.com and finally managed to collect my visa nearly four months later in Damascus... after the snow fell, choking mountain passes and forcing me to fly rather than ride to Iran.

So, good news - yes, you can get your visa abroad. Bad news - it may take longer than you expect. Apply early, lie about your intended date of visit (make it earlier than you actually want to go) and badger the service if they miss their deadline.

In defense of the service I used, it was (and remains) extremely difficult for Canadians to get into Iran - much harder than for Americans. Depending on your nationality, you might get in very quickly and without major problems... though, now is a difficult time for anyone trying to visit Iran, obviously.

I managed to get my Iranian visa in Erzurum after having been stuffed around by the consulate in Istanbul. I had waited 18 days only to be told by the bloke there that he hadn't submitted my application for approval. At least the mob in Erzurum were good - it only took 10 days to get.

I also met quite a few others who had applied either through an agency or directly to the consulates. Some had been stuffed around and some hadn't. So I think it's a bit of a "pot luck" thing. One guy had been to Ankara but had no joy there.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
