Saudi Challenge

We are running another Saudi desert run in November, should be a bit cooler than the last one we did.

Open to anybody, not a race or an official event as such things are illegal.

More like a bunch of like minded individuals heading off for a 150 km er 'tour' through the Dunes.

Last time we had 20 riders and it was tough but good fun.

Experience of sand riding required, GPS, support (ie a mate) with 4x4 and trailer for overnight camp. Contact me here with your details if interested.

I think Vickram is interested, any other Hubbers out there in KSA?

How did it go?

Hey guys, just joined the HUBB and saw this post...I've been wanting to do something like this for quite a while...I live in Al-Khobar and apparently no one rides around here.

So how did it go? Pics? Anyone up for an outing in or around Khobar?

Cheers,

Sam

Hi Red,

Thanks for the response. I have done a lot of off-road riding in South Africa ( Yamaha TT, Honda XR 500 RE, etc.) and surrounds but none here to date - still need to buy a suitable bike ........ know of anything that might work? Had a look at an XR500RE but did not take it as I thought it will undoubtedly be too heavy/torqey for the sand!

I have a trailer (3 bike) so all I need is the bike.

No road bike yet, on the shopping list though as I am thinking of doing a trip sometime in 2010 from here to Europe if all goes well.

I am in for the Nov run!!

Let me know (on my private e-mail) when you guys are going to the desert, I might want to tag along with the Jeep, the trailer is available if need be.

Cheers

Steve, you'll need a lightweight 4 stroke 450 like a KTM EXC or a Honda CRF. The big trail bikes are hopeless in the dunes, too heavy and you'll get bogged down all the time in soft sand. Anything more than 130 Kg will exhaust you.

Some guys use 2 stroke 250 motocross bikes but you need a lot of practice on those as you need to ride them on the pipe all the time.

PM me your email. I'll put you in touch with the guy that is doing the friday desert runs.

Thanks Red,

I will try to send via PM (if I am able to), dunno if I have enough posts yet.

I agree with you on the bikes required for the sand, I was thinking along the same lines. Keep me in mind if you come across something suitable.

Yup, as I thought, I have only five posts (6 now!), but shouldn't my e-mail be available? I received a mail from Vick in Khobar recently after a post here.

Have a look, you might be able to send me an e-mail.

Cheers
