Unleaded petrol

Hello!
We are planning to go to Syria and Jordan in April 2006. May you help me, if are there unleaded petrol? If not, what did you do? Did you put leaded fuel instead of unleaded?
Does the bike support it without damage?
Or how many km is possible to go with leaded fuel without damage?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome,

You only need unleaded if your vehicle has a catalytic converter. Otherwise it will run just fine on leaded.

If you do have a converter you must not use ANY leaded fuel, as it will destroy the converter.

What bike have you got?

Hi,
As beddhist says, if you use Leaded fuel with a bike that has a CAT fitted, you'll probably damage the CAT.
At the end of the day though, if you need petrol...you need petrol, whatever type it is!

When I visited Morocco a while ago, I ended up using Leaded fuel in my Yamaha. It shouldn't cause any engine problems (in fact the bike ran very well using it). In the UK, they don't check the emissions of the bikes during an MoT check (I'm not sure what they do in Europe), so nobody would ever know if the CAT wasn't working correctly...

Have a great trip!
Regards,
Simon

My Citroens Cat Conv. passed emmisions tests after having had leaded petrol burnt in the engine. Only used leaded a couple of times though.
