Hi All

Does anyone know if motorbikes require a Salik tag here in Dubai?

Cheers

You mean the "congestion charge"? Of course we do. They're short of money.

I e-mailed Salik and was told bikes must have a tag but that it needn't be affixed to the bike because the cameras would read the number plate and deduct the toll without the tag being present. If you e-mail them, you might get a different answer but essentially the official answer is 'yes'.

I'm looking for a biker without a tag to test the system for a few weeks. In the meantime, I avoid the two gantries.

Ummm interesting. I called Salik and finally got through to confirm that yes, I do need the Salik tag for the bike.

The reason I asked was because my fiancee Sam (I think some of you might know him as Sheikyabooty) has been whipping it around town on his bike, through Salik since it begun and has never been charged! He has never even bought a Salik card.

I think we'll both have to get one to be on the safe side, just in case it comes to registration and they slap even more fines on us!!

Cheers

You could try the Dubai Police online fine checker or a machine in one of the malls to see if any fines are recorded. Then let us know...

Well, we checked and nothing! Not going to risk it though and going to buy a tag tomorrow.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
