tyres...import tax etc?

any advice on getting tyres in Pakistan for F650gs and R1100gs.
we are heading to India after Pakistan and are in dire need of new tyres. cant get any anywhere at the moment because we are in Iran and we are not going to Turkey.

does anyone know of the import tax charged in Pakistan? I know that its horrendous in India.

any suggestions welcome...other than saying get them in Turkey....or before because we did carry some through Japan- Russia and then Mongolia where we had to put the new ones on.

thanks.

Smile tyres

Hi there,

last year I send a set of tyres to Lahore for a Swiss friend. I send it to the Swiss consulate, after phoning them and asking them for permission. They told me to declare the value very low and write myself a kind of invoice. Thats what I did and I wrapped them only in cheap plastic foil (for kitchen use) with a little bit of duct tape around.

The consulate arranged the customs and paid about 1000 Rupees (maybe 25 US Dollars) on a value of 50 USD tyre value included shipping. My friend just gave this amount of Rupees to the consulate and could collect the tyres.

But shipping was expensive on this end, but I worked in logistics so I could get a big discount.

Maybe you will find tyres in Delhi, at least I found somewhere a link to a big bike shop.

Good luck

Mika (on the road again)

Hi Lisa,
A fellow traveller managed to get some tyres in Islamabad, we were a bit suspicious, as they were called something like 'Golden Boys', but actually they were good tyres and got him down to KL in Malaysia. (he was riding a TA)
I managed to get some tyres in Mumbai from ultimateauto99@yahoo.in, Avons
Don't know if you can get that far but worth a try if you get stuck.
Don't wait till you get to Thailand, if your coming this way, mega expensive!
Take care!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
