Travelling in Iran with my car
 

Hi everyone,

I've been told that it's no more possible to enter in Iran with your own vehicle (even with a carnet!).
I think it's a false info but can anyone confirm that it's still possible?
I'm planning a trip overthere next year.

German friends have just crossed Iran end of October, coming from Turkey and continuing to UAE by ferry. This is the latest date I can confirm.

Hello!

Your information about crossing border is not correct. Entering Iran is possible with your own vehicle, but carnet for the car is neccesary. I suggest to cross the border at Esendere/Sero boardercross. There you will have no problems, and people there are very friendly.

I crossed the border two weeks ago after one month in Iran.

Also a warning. You don't need to pay nothing when you enter or going out from the country. If you go on some other bordercrossings, maybe they will ask you for some money (like they try to get almost 100 dollars on Razi from me) as customs or fuel or some other excuses, which is probably some kind of corruption... Like I said, on Sero there is probably the easiest way to cross it without any complications.

Not sure that it is required, but I think it is wise to have it. You never know what the police can ask for... cause there is a lot of police and military stop points in Iran, and the tourists are very interesting for them. Most of my experiences are good, but sometimes, you can get some pain in the ass, who wants to see everything and it's still not enough.:thumbdown:

Two years ago entering from Armenia I got my car sprayed/fumigated. Totally official, there was sort of an automatic car wash, if I recall. The cost was like 2 USD. Border was easy. Years before the border in Bazargan was easy as well (only on the Turkish side some annoying "fixers" insisting for a while). How great Iranians are, even border officials!

your infos is incorrect because you can enter in iran by you own car without any problem but you must have the carnet its important

Nejct is right
the best border for crossing is esendere/sero because its easy to cross and there is no many trucks which is wants to cross so you will cross quickly and on that border they dont ask for any money
also on other border you will get a stamp which means your vehicle is valid for staying in iran for 10 days!

For entering iran all kind of vehicles must have carnet

Hi Hossein,
Whats the alternate to it? I have heard of some Temporary Paperwork called "Temporary Admission License" at Iran Border. This is given by officials there. But want to find out the costs of it.

Iran with own car
 

Hi there
I just heard from wegoiran.com that driving an own car is no longer possible. The change of the regulations took place in December 2012. Did anybody enter Iran with an own car between January 2013 and now? Or does anyone have prove that this are all rumours? We would like to enter Iran in July 2013 by car.

Just asked my local friend in Tebriz and talked with him who travels a lot..
He says that he is just on the way back home from the local bazaar and Tebriz bazaar is full of Turkish number plated cars mentioning that it may be temporary during elections period..

As a neighbour, we dont have a special rule for border passings for eachother, obey the same national laws.(Only no visa)

Never heard such news.Checked wegoiran website also,no such news available.They market tours.
Now winter time and my latest driver friend to Iran was in November..

Visa,carnet, and local traffic insurance bought at the gate is ok. to enter Iran since so many years.You are even not asked for int.driving licence...

I am planning to visit Iran during May with my motorcycle. The tourist agents i contacted for the visa replied that there is a temporary restriction on land entry without a guided group, probably due to elections on June.

Yes, good idea: once you have the visa, it's not written on it which way you enter in the country...
