Fuel card in İran

We are in Erzurum and in a couple of days we should cross the border in Bazargan. We have been reading about the fuel card that the iranians have in order to ration the fuel.
We are wondering if this applies to foreigners.

We entered Iran in Bazargan boarder a wek ago.

1st Watch out that they don't stamp transit-stamp for 10 days on your carnet. That's what they did on my ones!

2nd No worry about fuel card, at all! nobody mentioned one and getting fuel at the gas station is no problem

3rd Don't go to Urmia and visit Hossein! His parents will throw you out of the house! I had over 38° fever and was very sick, couldn't really ride the bike and they just kicked us out. I was very disappointed...

I agree in all three points, although I had not Carnet Problem.

Rethinking of my stay at Hossein, I dont recomend it. These were my very most expansive nights and furthermore there were other situations I could still get angy about. He changed me money in a exchange office - I should not come in, because it would be more paperwork to change for a foreigner. I got no recept and a rate of 30.000 per Euro. A week later I changed alone and there was no paperwork and got 43.300 Rials per Euro!!! How could that be?
He wanted to test my bike around the corner, I expected him to be back in 5 to ten minutes. He was gone for more than two hours!

Well, but the Road from Van to Urmia was great.

Fuel is no problem at all. Irians have a card with a limit. If the limit is over they have to pay a higher price. This higher price is what I have to pay, but it is still nothing!!!
I dont know what you are driving, but there exists "Benzin" about 90 Octan and "Benzin Super". You get Benzin everywhere, but Super is rare and only in bigger cities at seldom petrol stations. Benzin - red colum; Super green column at the station.

I'm suprised and dissapointed at the same time to hear this about Hossein and exchanging money...

I've read the excat same story at his CouchSurfing-profile, before we got there. He received a bad and negative reference for that, while doing it the same way with other people.

He also suggested me to stay and wait outside the exchange office, what I denied...

I don't know, why he is such a bad character....??

I had that 10 day thing stamped to the back of my carnet, but left after 21 days, nothing was said.

Just a quick consideration ... so far all the gas stations we have visited have a "spare card" that they just put in for us.
Is it just cause our tank is slightly biggere then a bottle of coke? :-)

Hello guys,
did you have a tax to pay for the fuel when leaving the country? We 've been told that if we had no card given at the border entrance, we should pay a tax when leaving the country. Have you left yet?

Regarding Hossein from Umria, we had receive many emails from him insisting to come to visit. We didn't go and found out later (via traveller's blog) that this is a real trap. Anyway, there is nothing to do there...

Hi we haven't left yet but I think they try to make you pay if you are using diesel vehicle. That's happened few weeks ago to a couple we met on Turkey. Many friends of mine exited with motorbike and nobody asked for any money.

I totally agree with Richard!

We left the country without any asking or mentioning about fuel. We also had our spare 5L-fuel can filled up going back into Turkey and nobody cared...
