Syria Carnet and fuel questions

Hello all,
I am from Greece and I am planning a trip at May Greece - Turkey - Syria - Jordan, after calling the embassy of Syria in Greece, they informed me that the Carnet is not needed anymore to travel in Syria, would like to know if someone can confirm this?
Also how is the fuel situation in Syria? I have read old travel logs (2007 ~ 2009) which state that fuel is leaded only, does anyone know if this has changed?
If not, we will be travelling with 2 BMW 1200GS Adv bikes (2008 models) would there be any potential problem with the fueling in Syria?

Unfortunately I cannot give comment to the fuel quality Syria.
Have you modified the exhaust of your bike? I mean getting rid of cat.

No mods on the bike, so cat is still there. Also my budget won't allow such a mod currently.

I was in Syria last summer - you won't need a carnet unless things have changed. You will have to pay a rather expensive temporary import tax (~80 US I think) and purchase temp. insurance (cheap). I had to pay the import tax twice as I exited Syria into Jordan and then reentered Syria on the way home - a carnet will save you from paying the tax but is not needed to enter. Just make sure you have enough cash in euro/usd at the border.

No problems with fuel, I ran into some other riders and nobody reported any problems. It didn't even cross my mind when I was there - you should be fine.

I rode Syria in 2008 and there was no need of a Carnet.

I always found leaded fuel for my old Harley (never found unleaded one) but a friend of mine that rode the Country last year told me that in Damascus he found one gas station selling the unleaded one.

Enjoy Syrian people, they are fantastic!

I've also heard petrol is very bad in Syria.. I don't know if my bike can take it, was very bad when I used 91 octane fuel once, I always use 95..

I have a Buell XB12Ss (Sportster engine)
