Syria- any recomendations for Campsites or accommodation with secure parking?

Hello All,

We are about to cross the border from turkey into Syria, just wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for campsites or accomodation with secure parking where we can safely park our landcruiser? Especially in Aleppo and Damascus. We are planning to go to Aleppo, Crak de Chevelliers, palmeyra, Damascus and Hama - any other places we shouldn't miss?

Many thanks in advance!!
Cheers

Hey Ness,

In Allepo, there is a small, secure parking lot one block away from the main hostel. Can't remember the exact name, but the hostel is located in the main budget hotel district of Allepo which is a short walk from the Sheraton.

If you ask any taxi driver or person on the street as to where the Sheraton or the hotel district is, they will all point you in the right direction, might be the Bab Al Faraj district or right beside. There are many hotels to choose from, ones filled with locals or with travellers if that's what you want.

Have a great trip, Syria is a great place to travel.

hello
i don´t know how soon you need the information so i will give you what i know. when you go to the whole list of forums of ´´the hubb´´ then you will see a subforum called Navigation - Maps, Compass, GPS. go there and click the first post about campings. open de syria map in google earth and you got the most important campsites. i was there (syria) 3 years ago and campsite in damascus was really good (nice green grass at that time and a helpfull owner). i think one of the best campsite i have ever seen (i'm only 20years old so enough to discover still but) is the one in palmyra. great location just behind the old big temple. it has a lot of shadow and a pool. just great. then the last campsite we visit was near (not in but near) allepo. just basic and at that time no shadow. and at that time also relative expensive.
at the maps which i described here you can also find the ''waypoint'' of the camping. when you need more help just ask.
all the best
brend
btw.as the map showed and i also saw a sign to it when we were there, there should be a campsite close to crac.....with the difficult name. but have not slept there so don't know

At Crac de Chevaliers, there is a restaurant with a camping area and basic rooms, just downhill from the castle. Called "Round Table Restaurant & Camp", I think. The folks at Al Qalaa restaurant (excellent food, btw) recommended it and gave me directions.

In Damascus I stayed at Sultan hotel, parking (my motorcycle) in a nearby parking garage at about US$8 per day. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the souk, old city, etc. The hotel is in the LP middle east guidebook, also findable via google. If you pass the hotel, with the hotel on your right, go one block and turn right. Take the first left, the street will bend to the left and go uphill, the parking garage will be on your left. Just a short hike to the hotel.
