Hi,

From what I have read here so far you have two options:

1. Syria - Jordan - Israel, then take a ferry out.

2. Get two passports. The passport with the Syrian visa cannot be used on a border crossing to or from Israel. This means the above route doesn't work, either, as you would have a Jordanian stamp from a border crossing with Israel. So you must put another country in between.

Haven't been there but I heard a few years ago that Isreal woul put your entry visa on a seperate piece of paper to limit problems in in other countries.

That's right. Israel gives you an entry stamp on a piece of paper. Don't lose it !!!
I don't know however how they will react on a Syrian Visa.
Few days ago I sent a email to the israelian tourist office for the same questions. When I have the answer I will get back to you.

in late 1999 i entered israel with a syrian visa in my passport. the israeli conscript who questioned me at the jordan/occupied palestine border (king hussein/allenby bridge) seemed interested to learn my opinions on syria and syrians, but other than that there were no problems. however in 1999 things were relatively peaceful in the area, which is clearly not the case today.

The Israelis dont care about Syrian or any other Arab coutry's stamp in your passport. They will search your luggage very seriously though.they will not stqmp your pqssport for the entry, but they will stamp it for the bike. no worries there though, it is a totally nondescript stamp with a number on it, that's all.

Make sure the Jordanians though when you leqve do NOT stamp you OUT. insteqd, they give you a white peace of paper which you redeem when you reenter Jordan. So for all practical purpose, it is as if you never left the country... I strongly suggest that when you arrive in JOrdan from Syria, you go straight to the main police station in Amman to get the three month extention on your jordan visa. it's free. That way, the Syrians, on the way out, will think you stayed in Jordan all that time.

Where things get more complicated is on the way back, the Jordanians will only issue you a transit permit for the bike. you can solve this problem in Amman by getting an extention on your bike permit. They will do it, but it is time consuming bureaucracy. if you forget, it is not a big prblem, they will fine you 5 jordanian dinars upon exit.

Yep, and make sure the Jordanians (king hussein bridge border)don't stamp your passport!!!!! If they do you won't be able to get out through Syria.

The problem is that Arab states like Syria do not allow travellers with any evidence of entry into Israel to enter their state.

So not only must you avoid Israeli entry and exit stamps, you must also avoid exit stamps from Arab border posts *where the only place you can go to is Israel*

Perhaps your best option is to take a ferry from Cyprus to Israel, if such a crossing is possible?

i believe the above mentioned ferry is no longer running due to the security issues and the related lack of visitors to israel. do a search on the internet for the latest details on this.
