Just did it

Came along the cost 2 weeks ago, very beautiful, like I imagine the moon is like!! The roads are amazing but the only bad thing well may be good but we had escorts everywhere and was hard to bush camp, this has come about because of the two Belgain tourists killed in the Hadromat region 3 weeks back, its a dirty dirty country, plastic bags everywhere and people carry AK 47 around like we carry mobile phones about, everyone has one, all in all my opinion of Yemen is mixed very beautiful but not to free at the moment due to recent killings, cheap fuel, good food and great roads.

I will be in Shiraz in a month or less, in Dubai at the mo getting ready to cross to Iran, are you there??

How was it?

Hi Rob,

How's it all going, did you enjoy the ride up? I got to travel all the way down alone with only one escort for about 150 km. Did you get a chance to see Oman at all on the way?

I will be going to the MotoGP in a few weeks in Doha, are you going to be around then, be good it you could make it.

Cheers
Ivan

Hi all
Our car will be arriving in Salalah at the beginning of March.
Shipping from Dar is a nightmare..... It takes forever......

We are still undecided as to wether we will drive through Yemen or UAE to Saudi

If we go through Yemen wat kind of costs are ionvolved for a police escort?
Is Hamamwat safe to visit?

Grts

escorts are free

hiya,

escorts by police are free. they try to make you buy them lunch, which you can do or refuse as you like, but no money is asked. if the ask for it at the police station, where you pick up the permit, ask for a receipt and they'll drop it. not to many escorts anyway, and no worries.
hawdramuth was safe, many checkpoints, no trouble, but it is where the belgians got shot. i consider it bad luck and would ride it again, but i think you should ask and consider when you get there.

good luck
it's a great country

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
